Dylan smirked at me and whispered, “I know that look. Our fun sized fairy ninja goddess really doesn’t understand. She thinks King Alpha Prick over there is the only one who wants her.” I looked at Alpha Eric again, but if he’d heard Dylan, he gave no indication.
I whispered, “Do you want him to kill you? This is twice now.” Dylan snorted, “I’m safe. He’s a former sheet buddy of my Alpha. You should watch it though because you’re not protected.” I laughed, “You have no idea.”
Dylan’s eyes sparkled, “OHHHH tell me! Tell me, Tell me! I LOVE finding out things I don’t know.” I winked. I’d never out Matt. Molly came in the kitchen and I winced. I linked Matt, “Your sister is mad now and your brother-in-law is in Faerie.” Matt replied, “You are literally never going anywhere without me again. I’m so confused about what is happening. You know I hate being confused.” I did.
I explained everything to Molly. She gave me a look when she said she knew me. She did. She used to babysit me. I was worried the Princess would keep my mate from me. They all disagreed. Alpha Eric linked me, “Tell them what’s going on.”
I sighed and purged the situation to the group. Then I remembered the anniversary party Sophia and I always have. I could not do that shit this year. I needed to tell Matt to make sure Sophia didn’t try. I wouldn’t show up if she did. The Conners men came up with a plan. They were going to submit a proposal that she wolves could be Lead Warriors, Alpha’s, and Beta’s if they were first born, just like males.
That got me thinking about Matt. We really needed to evolve as a group. He was so sure I’d strip his title that he was going to be miserable being with a woman to keep it. Sophia was a great Alpha. She was scared that without me her title would be stripped. This had to end, we couldn’t stay this way. We weren’t helping ourselves. They’d have my support, and I let them know I’d sign their proposal the second it was drafted. I nodded to everyone and left.
I was almost to my car when Dylan called, “Ohhh Alllppphhhhaaaa Chhhhasssseeee.” I sighed, “Yes, Beta Dylan.” Beta Dylan smiled, “You know when people say that sometimes I think I should’ve gone with Beta Frost. That sounds like a superhero. I would fit in with my new obsession so well.” I questioned, “Your obsession?”
Dylan waved his hands, “Ask your Beta for my memos. You would know all about my obsession with the partial fairies if you did. I’m never going back to PPFD.” I sighed again, “PPFD?” Dylan squealed, “I’m so glad you asked, Alpha Chase. It stands for Pre-partial Fairy Days.” I rubbed my face, “Why did you come out here?”
Dylan tapped my arm, “Jeez. touchy. I’m here for my man, Beta Matt. Beta’s talk, you know? We Beta’s are the glue for you Alpha’s. Without us you are but lost ships at sea. Find the event planner, Alpha Chase.” I admitted, “I have a list. I’m trying to find the one they used, but there’s one whose schedule I can’t nail down.”
Dylan laughed, “How cute. An Alpha with a list. Now I’ve heard it all. What will come for me next? Consider me your Yoda. Yoda Dylan. Find planner you must, with hard schedule. Pin down you must.” I rolled my eyes, “I’ll keep that in mind.” Dylan continued, “Fine her you must, keep secret you must.”
I yelled, “WILL YOU STOP talking like Yoda!” Dylan snorted, “Touchy you are. Anyway, I’m going to get out of this downpour, and get back to my delightful show. You’re worrying your Beta.” I frowned, “He told you he’s worried?”
Beta Dylan laughed, “No, we Beta’s are a vault trap for our Alpha’s. I can hear it in his tone. We Beta’s have a tone when we worry for our Alpha’s. I’m sure Beta Matt can tell you all about how worried I am.” I frowned, “Why are you worried? Is Alpha Lucas ok?”
Dylan laughed, “Is he ok? No. Didn’t you see him in there? I’m worried because I saw this train wreck coming a mile away. I am prepared for operation cold war back on the home front. All while trying to keep the pack thinking everything is rainbows and unicorns, which has gotten SO much easier since fairies came into my life. They are so distracting. You need to get you one for your pack.”
I snorted, “I have enough problems.” Dylan hissed, “Problems? They are my new favorite show! They do not cause problems; they create endless fountains of entertainment. You shut your mouth and get you a fairy. You should warn Alpha Sophia about our special fun sized fairy ninja goddess. She’s in line for a tongue lashing al la Haley style. Because KAP will tell her the full situationship you have going on. Since she knows your mate, she’s going to go ninja fairy about it.”
I snorted, “I’d like to hear her go fairy ninja on her too.” Dylan said, “Now, now, you HAVE to hear it, and if I’m not there then you WILL record it for me. Never mind, you’d forget. I’ll tell Beta Matt.” Dylan turned and skipped back into the house calling over his shoulder, “Back to my fairy show!”
I rolled my eyes and got in my car. I was almost at the border when I saw a coffee shop. I was going to need coffee if I was going to get through this night. Cameron was still waiting for an explanation. I needed to talk to Sophia and figure out what the HELL Matt was doing at the border tonight. Bolt snorted, “Come on Chase. His mate has to be near here.” That was likely correct.
I grabbed my coffee and was walking back to my car when the smell of cinnamon hit me. Bolt yelled, “MATE!” I whirled around, ran to the tree line, and shifted. Moving along the boundary of my territory until the hotel came into view. Bolt repeated, “MATE! MATE!” I snarked, “I heard you the first time, Bolt.”
Our mate turned to the area we were in. I was in shock. I told Bold in surprise, “She smells us.” Bolt repeated, “SHE SMELLS US CHASE!” She began to come towards me. FUCK! I took off and shifted back to human form and climbed up a tree after grabbing some shorts.
Bolt snorted, “Are we a squirrel now? Get down there and meet her!” I gritted my teeth gripping the tree branch to keep myself in place, “We can’t. This was the plan. We are going to make sure she’s safe, but we can’t meet her yet.” Bolt grumbled.
I tried to placate him, “We can watch her now. But first, we need to know who she. Any ideas on how to get her name?” Bolt had none. She got to me quickly. I sniffed again. She smelled amazing. Bolt linked me, “She’s not a wolf.” Unhelpful animal! I retorted, “I got that. She’s supernatural though.” I studied her. She was about five foot eleven with black hair. She had full pouty lips that I desperately wanted to kiss.
I caught my lead warriors’ scent, and I bit back my growl. I ordered over link, “KINCADE, GET BACK!” He stepped on a twig. My mate whirled around, but Kincade hid behind a tree. Her hand went to her chest. I growled at him, “You scared her!” Kincade was surprised, “I just saw you shift and come back here. I was making sure you were ok.”
He ended up being very helpful because she said her name. Lexi Scott was my mate. She sighed and turned around. Bolt chuckled, “She’s having trouble leaving, and she didn’t even see us.” She was stunning. Bolt proudly stated, “Our pups will be beautiful.” I agreed with him.
Once she got inside, I hopped down from the tee. Kincade came out. I told him, “You report to me and me alone on this. You follow her and make sure she is safe. I want to know where she lives, and I want that report the second you have it.”
Kincade nodded, then questioned, “Is she a threat? What is she?” I answered, “I don’t know what kind of supernatural she is, but she is not a threat. Just keep her safe.” I barely managed not to call her mine. Kincade nodded while looking highly suspicious.
I added, “Call your brother too.” Kincade asked, “You want Kevin here too?” I nodded, “Both of you make sure she is safe.” Kincade was clearly confused but agreed. I ran back to my car. I sat across the street for who knows how long.
Matt linking me brought me out of it, “Uhh Chase, Cameron is here and he’s pissed. He’s two seconds from hunting you down.” I snapped out of it, “Shit! I’m almost home.” Matt informed me, “He thinks you’re ignoring his calls.”
I looked down at my phone in my cup holder. I’d missed fifteen calls. Did they not think to link me? “I didn’t see or hear the calls, my phone wasn’t on me. I’m on my way,” I replied. Matt sounded all too excited, “To be a fly on the wall for this brotherly chat.” I winced. There had been very few times my brother was mad at me. Thinking I was blowing him off would do just that.
Matt, Cameron, and my dad were waiting when I pulled in. Cameron glared at me. My dad looked relieved. I got out of the car. My dad greeted, “Son, we were about to send out search parties. Cameron called Alpha Eric, and Beta Caleb said you’d left over two hours ago.” I frowned, “I didn’t realize it had been that long. Cameron, are you ready to go?”
Cameron growled, “I’ve been ready FOR AN HOUR AND HALF!” I nodded and got back in the car. Cameron stomped over. Matt linked, “Best of luck to you. I think he’s going to hit you.” That might make me feel better about being such an idiot. I should be with my mate right now, but I’m the dumbass who got married. I sighed and drove with Cameron to our spot.
I parked and yet again my brother slammed the door when he got out. He whirled around immediately when I followed suit, “You can’t get out of this, Chase. You don’t lie to me! You TOLD me you’d tell me tonight!” I put my hands up, “I’m not trying to get out of it. I just lost track of…” I trailed off because Cameron punched me in the face.
