Andrew’s eyes snapped up, “You can’t do that!” I disagreed, “All three of us know that I can. Start. Talking.” Andrew defended himself, “I’m not wrong. A child of his string and another woman wouldn’t be our grandchild.”

I disagreed, “You are very wrong, and if you’re not careful you will be cut out of Ted’s life. You’re lucky you aren’t already. I’d have told you to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine years ago. If Tate and Kylie adopted you would agree that child was your grandchild. You’re being prejudiced assholes, and I’ve had enough. You’ve always hurt Ted, but this is over the line. Explain yourselves.”

Amelia admitted, “It’s just hard for us. We thought this was a phase.” I replied, “I don’t care.” Amelia said, “I thought he’d meet his war goddess mate, and then he’d be normal.” I asked, “Why would you want Ted to be normal? He’s extraordinary. People trust him, and they tell him things. He’s a great listener.”

I added, “He’s the FIRST Beta Male in the history of werewolves. Do you even see how proud of him you should be? He needs support. He will get enough problems from the werewolf community at large. The last people who should be roadblocks are his own family. That’s a conversation for another time. You are guests in this territory. Why did you ask for this meeting if you weren’t even going to be nice?”

Andrew shuffled on his feet, “We wanted to meet Ted’s string.” I countered, “Lie better. You didn’t even introduce yourselves to him. In fact, it didn’t even seem like you wanted to meet him or them AT ALL.” They both looked nervous.

I demanded, “What?” Amelia sighed, “We were asked to come….” I interrupted, “Tony asked you to come home?” That didn’t make sense. Both shook their heads no. I was not getting a good feeling about this. I ordered, “Answer my damn question.”

Andrew whispered, “Let’s not discuss this here.” I denied his request, “Yes, here.” Andrew argued, “Their hearing is too good.” I was stunned, “This is about the pack?” Andrew took out his phone and typed a message. He held it up so I could read it.

Andrew:We were threatened. They said they would burn down our business and kill our son and grandchildren. They said if we helped them, they would spare Ted when they attacked. Despite what you think; we do love him. He’s our grandson. I’ll do whatever I have to for my family. We were told to come home and visit Ted as much as we could. That way we could learn their patterns and report back.

Anger coursed through my veins. I realized part of it was because these were MY people and MY pack. I was their Luna, and someone planning to attack them pissed me off. They were going to betray their grandson, my best friend, my pack, and my string?

I called Heath on his Hood number. He answered “Lexi Scott, I figured you might call.” I said, “You have two prisoners to come get. NOW!” Heath was surprised, “Alright. I’ll be there soon.” I hung up and muttered, “Do not punch them. Do not punch them.”

I turned to Amelia and Andrew, “What were you supposed to give them? WHO is them?” Amelia cried, “We don’t know. They said they were rogues. They said they would kill Ted! We did what we had to do.”

I disagreed, “You could’ve come to me or the Hood. Hell, you could’ve told YOUR son. You did what you thought you could get away with. I could even theorize it was so Ted’s string would die, and you hoped his next would be a female. What were you supposed to give them? Did you give them anything?” Amelia shook her head. Andrew held up another message.

Andrew:We were supposed to get their patrols. See if they had weak spots or people. We haven’t been here long enough to give them anything. We do love Ted. He wasn’t supposed to be harmed, and neither was his string.

Well, that was a blatant lie they were choosing not to see. A Beta would NEVER be unharmed if the pack was attacked. He would defend his Alpha until his final breath. Heath arrived in full Hood gear with Isaiah and two others.

I glared at them, “Explain to your leader what you have done. I’ll go explain it to your damn family.” I turned to my brother, “Get them out of my sight.” He nodded then asked, “I owe more than the apology I planned, don’t I?” I nodded, “Yes, you will.” Heath nodded then left.

I took a deep breath then walked inside. Anne smiled then frowned, “Where did they go?” I answered, “The Hood has them.” Tony stood, “What?” I held up my hand, “First, I need to apologize to Isabella again. I am sorry this happened in your home.” I turned to my string, “Chase, their home needs to be swept for bugs.” Chase growled, “What?”

Ted stood up, “They betrayed me?” I explained, “They claim they were threatened by rogues. They said if they helped them get intel for an attack; Ted would not be harmed and allowed to return home. They even said Matt wasn’t going to get hurt.” Isaac snorted in disbelief along with every wolf at the table.

I assured them, “The Hood WILL get answers, and I cannot express how sorry we are. They are our only people in Nashville. No one else from the Shroud should come here trying to gather information outside of those two.”

Chase came towards me then glanced at Molly. He shot me a look. I knew he wanted to kiss me, but he didn’t. He just went outside. Matt consoled my friend, “Ted, it’s ok.” Ted cried, “I hate them!” Matt led Ted out of the room.

Tony had tears coursing down his cheeks. He spoke softly, “Isaac, I... I am so sorry.” Isaac stood, “It’s not your fault. Everyone makes their own choices. I understand if you would like to leave, but for our sons sakes I think we should stay. Our goddesses meant for us to be family, and I trust the Moon Goddess.”

Tony shook Isaac’s hand, “As I trust our War Goddess. You have my oath, my family here, my wife, myself, my son Tate, and our daughter in law Kylie; we will not betray you or your family Isaac Miller.” Ted had come back into the room and started crying harder.

Tate stood along with Anne. They both went and surrounded Ted. Anne wiped his tears, “None of this now, Ted. Your daddy has fixed this as best we can. Let’s just get back to dinner. I hear the dessert is your favorite. Creme Brule.”

Ted nodded, “It is. Isabella, Isaac, I am so sorry.” Isabella stood, “Nonsense! You did nothing wrong Ted. Besides, all I heard that was relevant to our relationship moving forward tonight is I’ll have another grandpup to spoil at the end of the summer. I did hear that right? Didn’t I, Matt?”

Matt smiled and hugged Ted announcing, “Yes, we talked with Joanie. She agrees that the beginning of June for an insemination would work for her. We have an alternate guard ready to go for Ted’s detail. I told her after the pup is born, she can return to her post; however, if she’d like to stay home, she’d have that option available. Chase and I decided today on where the house we build will be. It’s actually behind yours.”

Isabella fanned herself, “Well, that’s just... Isaac, another grandpup! I’m so excited!” Anne said, “Me too! I will spoil that little one rotten!” She turned to Matt, “I want you to know any child of yours is our grandchild. It’s how we all feel.” Tate agreed, “I’ll be their Uncle. Any member of Teddy’s family is my family too.” Chase came back with Derrick, Kevin, and Kincade. They swept the house. No bugs were found thank god. Heath texted me.

Heath:We are sending people to scout their business. I doubt this is rogues. Rogues aren’t organized.

Me:Great. We needed another problem.

Heath:There are always problems. Nothing will happen to Ted, I’ll make sure of it.

I didn’t reply. Because I couldn’t type what I wanted because I didn’t tell my brother who my string was. My question was, what about Chase? I couldn’t let anything happen to these people or to Chase. I was going to have to set up some cameras to alert me if anything happened. I could grab my Black Arrow gear and be here to help.

I looked at Chase and my heart clenched. I couldn’t let anything happen to him. I just couldn't. He smiled at me, and that settled it. I’d set up cameras. I could do the border of his territory with that other Alpha who I was going to be helping on Halloween.
