A strong hand snaked around my waist. “Hey, baby.”
“Rocco.” My fingers curled around the tray as I extended it. The lunch lady placed a burger and fries on it.
“You didn’t respond to my text.”
I peeked at him as I sat an apple next to the burger. “It was a disagreement between friends. We can talk about it later.”
Rocco removed his hand, and I missed his warmth. “What was it about?”
The lunch lady piled fries on his plate next to his cheeseburger.
“Faith asked about my summer in front of the girls.”
He chuckled as we walked toward the table.
“Did you know Faith is attending Princeton?”
His brows lifted. “No.”
He didn’t look happy about the news. Rocco would tear someone on his team a new asshole for not giving him that information sooner.
“You were busy most of the summer.”
“They still should’ve made me aware,” he grumbled, as we approached our table.
“Anyone else attending Princeton besides Faith?” Rocco asked as we took our seats.
Rustled brows stirred around the table as they glanced at each other.
“Bro, you know I’m attending Harvard,” Easton stated.
“I know. Just wanted to make sure no one else changed their minds at the last minute about what college they’re attending.” His eyes landed on Faith.
She tossed her long brown curls over one shoulder as she chomped on a celery stick. “What? Dad wants me around those on my level.” Faith flashed a sweet, innocent smile.
I knew exactly what she meant. He wanted her around crime family kids.
Yareli elbowed Faith. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
She didn’t get it. Yareli probably viewed her comment as an insult.
“I’m looking forward to the pep rally tomorrow. We can wear whatever we want.” I grinned.
Sipping a mango smoothie, I peeked across the crowded lunchroom. The liquid slipped down the wrong pipe as I peered at two people, I never thought I’d see sitting in each other’s presence. Their foreheads practically touched as they stared at a phone screen.
Genevieve whacked my back with the heel of her hand a few times.
“Thank you,” I choked out.
Rocco rubbed my back. “Are you all, right?”
“Ten o’clock,” I muttered.
I sucked down half a bottle of water.
“What the fuck?” Rocco growled.
Jeremiah looked in the same direction as Rocco.
