CALEB
What the ever loving fuck is wrong with Trevor? And, why does he insist on meddling in his cousin’s life? I’m furious that he intervened, but there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. The only consolation is that he’ll be at the restaurant. Whether the ass lets me sit beside her is another story. I’m a man who is used to getting my own way and Trevor needs to learn that early on. No one gets in the way of what I want. I want Willow.
I have my driver wait until everyone pulls in before stepping out. Straightening my jacket and tie, I head in Trevor’s direction. Willow senses my mood so she rushes over to meet me.
“If we’re going to be friends, we need to get something straight. I enjoy your company, but please don’t boss me around. I have a mind of my own and don’t need someone doing my thinking for me.”
“Duly noted.” We share a look and then she links her arm in mine. For whatever reason, just being in her presence is enough for me right now. I long for a physical connection. What is it about this girl that brings me peace? Hell if I know, but I’d love to explore it more.
“Reservation for Morris.” The hostess escorts us into a private room where we won’t be bothered. I prefer this so much more than being in the main dining area where the paparazzi can take pictures at the drop of a dime. I pull out her chair for her and then sit right beside her. I can’t help feeling a bit triumphant when I catch Trevor scowling at me. That boy does not like me for some reason and I have no idea why.
There’s champagne waiting for us since I called ahead, so I do the honors and pop the bottle. Once everyone’s glass is full, I make a toast. “Here’s toThe Sinful Sevenand their amazing team. The sky’s the limit. Cheers.”
There’s always one in the bunch that needs to spoil it, today there’s two. They hate the fact that I’m paying attention to Willow.
“What’s your deal, Caleb?” Trevor spits out. “You weren’t this buddy- buddy with us last year when we started out. Why now?”
Jet chuckles. “We must be making him a shit ton of money, is why.”
“Both of you. That’s enough!” Quinn, knows me all too well and thought she could save her boys. Too late.
“It’s quite all right, Quinn. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Their very capable of taking care of themselves, no need to interfere. I’m going to ask you a simple question. How many members are there inThe Sinful Seven?” I expected a few snickers and laughs and they didn’t disappoint. Unanimously they all shout four.
“Exactly my point. There are four of you and only three speak and make the decisions. What about Willow? Doesn’t she get a say?” I know I’m overstepping since she basically just told me to mind my own business.
“Willow can voice her opinion anytime she wants—”
“Trevor, stop!” Willow shouts. “You’re right. I can speak for myself. Look, Caleb. I’m not used to having to defend myself, but if you insist I’ll enlighten you. I hate making decisions because whenever I do, they’re the wrong ones. It’s easier for me to let someone who knows what they’re doing, like the five of them, do it for me. If there ever comes a time where I disagree, I’m the first to let them know. I really appreciate your concern, but it’s unnecessary.”
“Thank you, Willow. That’s all I wanted to know. Now, let’s celebrate. You three can believe whatever you want, but I have no ulterior motive here. Quinn can attest to the fact that I’m generous with my clients. You’ve all worked hard to get where you are and I’m more than happy to reward you for all your hard work. Think of it as a little gold star you used to receive in school.”
“Gold star, what the hell is that? All I ever got in school was detention.” Leave it to Lucas to crack a joke to break the ice.
“Be that as it may,The Sinful Seven’sjust getting started. And onceResilientis released, there won’t be a person on the face of the earth that won’t recognize your name. Trust me, I’ve seen it time and time again.”
“Caleb’s right,” Quinn says. “Once you lure your fans in and they like what they see, they’ll be your fans for life. Then if they get their friends hooked on your music, well, it’s like a snowball effect and it’s only in your favor.” Quinn’s always been one of my favorite advocates, because she’s witnessed the magic firsthand.
“Exactly what Quinn just said. Having loyal fans and being consistent is what makes or breaks a band. Some are just one-hit wonders. They make one album, have only one hit, and then they fade into the sunset. You’ve already had several hits since theDistractiontour, so no worries there. The same will happen with this one. Just wait and see.”
After placing our orders, the champagne flows and the conversation turns cordial. The atmosphere is a lot different than it was when we first arrived. It’s relaxed. Exactly what I was hoping for. I’ll gladly sit here for a thousand years getting to know each and every one of them if I can spend some time with Willow. She’s a breath of fresh air.
Willow touches my arm, grabbing my attention. “Maybe it’s the champagne, maybe not, but I need to know why the sudden interest, Boss Man?” I can’t help chuckling at my new nickname. I rather like it.
“You might regret asking me that question when I give you my answer, Willow.” She purses her lips, shaking her head.
“Never. You like me, don’t you?” Direct and to the point.
“Yes, I do, and I have a feeling you like me too. Let me drive you home.”
“Why? Are you going to kiss me?” She can blame the champagne all she wants, Willow knows exactly what she’s saying.
“It was my intention, yes. Would you enjoy that?” I just noticed no one else at the table is talking. Are they eavesdropping? Perhaps, but it’s none of their business.
“Very much. Let’s leave now.” To the chagrin of everyone seated at this table.
