Daaaang.
Now it was my turn to blush—for my whole body to blush. I’d forgotten how much I’d missed this flirtatious side of him.
I said, “Good thing you have lots of self-control today, huh?”
He shook his head as if warning me not to tempt him. “I only have so much.”
“But you’re the star quarterback for the Denver Dragons. You don’t get there without a strong will.”
He raised a dark eyebrow, and I loved the way his brown eyes lit up before he said, “That’sverydifferent.”
When his gaze went to my mouth for a split second, my stomach muscles tightened.
I really was pushing his buttons, wasn’t I?
And I loved it.
But since I knew we probably shouldn’t try doing what we were both very tempted to do, I shrugged and said, “Well, then. It’s a good thing I have enough for the both of us.”
“Whatever.” He rolled his eyes and lay flat on his back. “I saw you checking me out.”
I sat up and pushed the covers away, knowing if I didn’t climb out of bed now I might be tempted to pounce on him myself.
“Well, since we both seem to be well aware of how attractive each of us is,” I said as I slipped out of bed and onto the floor. “I’m going to go make some breakfast.”
“That’s probably a good idea.” He nodded, his eyes raking me over as if to prove a point. “I’ll be down in a minute.”

Makingbreakfast with Vincent turned out to be really fun. He had changed back into the button-up shirt and jeans he’d worn to the rehearsal party last night—and though he still looked sexy in them, they helped me to be in a mind-frame that wasn’t as distracted by his muscles as I’d been when he was wearing his old football shirt.
He made the bacon and eggs while I made the French toast and buttermilk syrup, and we only bumped up against each other a few times.
We had a good conversation as we ate, talking about what we had been up to lately. Me: working on a convenience store robbery case. Him: mainly just trying to keep up his training regimen with Cole and spending as much time with Jaxon as he could to make up for the busy football season.
He helped me clean up and even washed the pots and pans when we were done, and then he went back to his place to get ready for the wedding in a few hours.
All in all, it was a great Saturday morning. Very much like what we used to have before Jaxon was born, slow and easy and fun.
It almost made me excited about the prospect of going to Kira and Derek’s wedding with him. Until I remembered he was only giving me a ride there because my car wasn’t working. And, oh yeah, he still had a date.
Yeah, that was going to be fun to watch after the past fourteen hours of heaven.
At least the shop had called and said my car was already done and ready to be picked up. So I didn’t have to worry about being that third wheel when Vincent went to pick up his date.
Who was she, anyway?
Was it someone he knew well?
Or just a casual date?
From the way he’d flirted with me all morning, it didn’t seem like he was serious about anyone—at least I hoped he wouldn’t flirt with me when he was dating someone else because that might make me rethink the whole forgiveness talk we’d had last night.
But whether I was ready to meet his date or not, I’d be running into her in a matter of hours.

“Ready to do what we practiced?”Landon asked a couple of hours later.
