Kyle shouldn’t have been surprised by Mr. Jones’s question, but he had to admit it wasn’t the first thing he expected him to say.

Dexter sighed. “I did what I did to save my ass. It’s that simple. Had nothing to do with you in any capacity.” Dexter took his glare to Kyle “There, I said it. Am I free to go?”

“Hardly,” Kyle growled.

Dexter tossed his hands in the air. “That’s what your girl wanted me to tell him!” Dexter pointed at Mr. Jones. “It’s the truth! I don’t know why you would think otherwise, honestly. Mr. Jones rushed the table, throwing his body forward, his hand slamming against Dexter’s shoulders as he grabbed him and dragged his burly body back across.

Dexter thudded to the floor, and Kyle watched with more satisfaction than he should’ve as Mr. Jones dragged Dexter from the floor and ran him into the wall.

“You son of a bitch!” Mr. Jones slammed his fist into Dexter’s nose. “You think this is a game!?”
