Kyle took in a breath. “You know you could have any man you want, right?”
“Clearly not any man. It’s seems it’s always the one you really crave that’s the one you can’t have.”
“Honestly, Regina, stop this.”
“I can’t. You didn’t even give me a chance.”
“I’m in love.” He let that settle in the line for a second to get through to her. “No matter what you think you know, it’ll never affect my love for her.”
“Even if she was cheating on you?”
“Is she?”
“I’m just asking.”
“So am I.”
The line grew quiet again and again, Kyle shook his head.
“That’s what I thought,” he concluded.
“Fine. It’s your loss, I’m telling you.”
“Thank you for the lesson. Have a great day, Ms. Smalls.”
He ended the call and tossed the phone on the bed, then folded his arms.
Yes, today was the day they were supposed to remain apart. But he couldn’t go through it with waiting and pretending like something wasn’t bothering London. He retrieved his phone just as he heard the front door open, and pivoting on his feet, he left the room in search of why she had returned.
