“Now what?” She looks at me, just as lost as I am.
“We wait two minutes,” I read the box and set the test down.
A hundred different scenarios filter through my mind in the time we wait. I always wanted a family, and Ciaran and I have talked about kids often. We didn’t plan for it to happen this soon, not with the house being worked on, or our new venture for Rogue. Our society is stable but we all know things could change fast, and with us still lending a hand when we can to GO, it’s always a worry in the back of my mind. Mila’s phone beeps and my gaze snaps up to the counter. Knowing my future is about to change should make me nervous, or worried. But when I look closer, all I can feel is excitement.
“We need to get going,” Lux taps her knuckles lightly on the door, and I safely pocket the test, tucking it into the hidden pocket in my dress.
A smile on my face, Mila and I join them in the room. Oaklynn wraps me in a hug and I hold onto her.
“Let’s get you married.”
Most of our town turned out for the wedding. With Ciaran having grown up here, and both us graduating from here, we’re well known even by those who aren’t hidden by Rogue. A few of the small business owners even closed their shops and stores early in order to make it to our wedding.
The snow keeps falling, lightly. Not enough to accumulate on the ground but enough to dust it. The sun is sinking lower into the sky, casting the perfect lilac purple tone in the sky, perfect for the twinkle lights that decorate the trees and the aisle that I’ll be walking down. Our friends and family line the narrow space, giving just enough room for my dad and me to walk. My mom is already waiting, and Niko walked down before us carrying a sign that read:Here comes your dream girl! The music starts, and finally, I get to see him.
Ciaran’s eyes pierce into mine. I read every emotion running through his mind, love, happiness, and heat. Everything he’s feeling is a mirror to my soul. Excitement courses through my nerves and I smile at him.
“I do.” I hold his gaze, my hands gripping his. “I absolutely do.”
Ciaran relaxes and his lips form a smirk. He moves to me instantly, his mouth claiming mine. My arms wrap around his waist while his hands cradle my face lovingly. Vaguely, I hear the officiant announce us husband and wife, and our friends and family cheer. I’m lost in him though. Ciaran pours all his love into that kiss, the one binding us together for always.
When he pulls away, I’m dazed, blinking up at him, and my lips feel puffy. Gently, he presses our foreheads together.
“Mine, forever,” he whispers and tears spring to my eyes.
“Always,” I manage to respond.
Ciaran’s icy eyes flash with heat, before he moves back, his arm curving around my waist while we face the crowd that is now standing and clapping. I turn and reach for my bouquet from Mila, and find my baby sister also with tears running down her cheeks. She hugs me quickly and whispers her love for us.
Finally, Ciaran leads us up the aisle to more cheers. When we reach the end of the aisle, his hands grip my waist and I’m deposited into the backseat of an SUV. Our driver starts the trek through the woods and back into town. Ciaran holds my hand the entire drive, his fingers constantly running over the diamond band on my finger.
“You’re breathtaking,” He tells me, my eyes finding his. My heart feels full. “If I hadn’t promised you the wedding of your dreams I’d steal you away right now. I’m fighting with myself over taking you anywhere that I don’t have to share you just to claim every inch of your body.”
My cheeks heat, and my grip tightens on his hand. I want that. I need him. “Excuse me”, I tell the driver, whispering conspiratorially, “Can you take us here instead?”
Ciaran’s eyes widen, and the smile on his lips is part devilish and proud. It isn’t until he sees where we are actually going he shoots me a confused look. The driver pulls into the lot at the lake.
“Here?” Ciaran asks. “I was thinking more like the house, so I can lay you out on our bed.”
I laugh and reach for the door handle. “Just get out. I have something to show you.”
He frowns, but follows me out of the vehicle anyway. “Alright.”
I take his hand and move us closer to the water. “I love you,” I tell him, my eyes searching his. He smiles and runs his knuckles down my cheek to my jaw.
“I love you more than life,” He responds. I can see in his gaze the years of our memories together. Our rocky past, our hurts, our truths, and the times we chose each other over and over again. I see my future in his eyes, the many years of dreams he’s been building for us.
Carefully, I reach into my pocket and pull out the test. “I’m pregnant.”
Ciaran holds his breath, his eyes searching my face, taking in my smile, my excitement. His hands move slowly to the test, taking it from me before his eyes finally drop to it. He exhales slowly. “You’re giving me a baby, Say?”
My shoulders lift. “Well you’ve given me all my dreams. I thought this time I could surprise you.”
He peeks up, his eyes meeting mine through the locks of his white- blonde hair. “You’re amazing.”
Ciaran pulls my body into his. His arms wrap around me, securing me to him, sheltering me. My arms slide around him and hold him back just as tight.
“Fuck. I’m speechless. You’re perfect. You’re my everything. Thank you, Saylor. Thank you for choosing me, then, and now. I love you. I will always love you.”
