“No, because we would have to be friends for that to happen. I don’t know what to call it. An enemies to fuckers situation? Is that a thing?”

“I don’t think so. Plus, don’t you both have to hate each other in order for it to be enemies?”

“Trust me, I’m pretty sure Sean hates me as much as I hate him.”

“I seriously doubt that. Have you seen the way he looks at you? Do you remember how he stepped in to take care of you when you fell?”

“Yeah, but he was just being nice because he felt obligated.”

“Says who?”

I shrugged, not sure how to answer that question.

“Me?”

“Well, I would venture to say you’re wrong. You might not see it, but everyone else does.”

“See what?” I asked as we walked into the store and headed toward the display where the boxes needed to go.

“That he’s madly in love with you. He always has been, Cassidy.”

I looked up to find his gaze on mine as he stood in front of two little girls who were bouncing excitedly in front of him. His mother looked up, wondering what had caught his eye and gave me a warm smile and waved. I waved back and then returned my focus to the display.

I didn’t have time for emotions right now, especially the kind that made me feel all warm and fuzzy over a guy I once wanted to stab like a voodoo doll.

Sean

“Uncle Sean, can youcome over for dinner tonight? Nana said she’s making pasgetti,” Carly said as she tugged on my hand.

“Spaghetti,” my mom corrected with a smile. “And yes, dear, you’re more than welcome to join us. I’m sending Declan and Stephanie out on a date night tonight and watching the girls overnight while their parents finish their holiday shopping.”

“Thank you ladies for the invite, but unfortunately, I have some shopping of my own to finish.”

Carly and Jocelyn pouted, breaking my heart.
