“And if I never want to be a willing participant…?” I bit out, anger going through me at the thought of them touching me makes me want to vomit. I want a voice and I know I don't havea lot of choice on being here and fighting for my life. But if there was a way to escape down the road…I’m going to take it.
The dark chuckle he releases next to my ear as he pulls back, sends a shiver down my spine. Looking me in the eyes, “Then you’ll be our caged bird until you give in.” His grip on my neck tightens one more time before releasing me, pulling back and standing up. He leaves me lying on the floor. Taking a few seconds I sit up, as Jasper’s looking down at me with clear amusement.
“I think I’ll call you my little sparrow from now on.” Jasper laughs as he sees the disgruntled expression that takes over my face. Rubbing my neck before moving my hand to the spot he bit, I wince in pain. The bite mark is still bleeding as I can see blood on my hand from simply touching it.
“Did all the past wives of the family give in?” I ask, trying to keep my temper out of my voice. I know I’m unsuccessful by the look on Jasper’s face.
“They did give in eventually. My brothers and myself were born…weren’t we? As well as our cousins.” He crouches down, letting his fingers brush over the bite wound before pulling his hand back with blood on his fingers. He grins as he licks the blood off each finger, making me shudder in disgust.
‘What the fuck….’ I know he’s unhinged…but liking the taste of blood was a new level of crazy I have never come across before.
“Do you usually bite the girls that are brought here?” I ask, as my temper starts to flare to life. I’m not a damsel in distress or a weeping girl who would willingly take their mistreatment like this. I'm more than willing to bite him back.
He brings his hand close to my head in order to tuck a piece of stray hair behind my ear. He moves his hand so his thumb is caressing my cheek, “you are a bit different. You definitely act different than them.” I narrow my eyes, and I decide to dosomething completely impulsive. I don’t know how he’ll react, but fair is fair.
My hand shot out and grabbing his arm, bringing his wrist to my mouth, I bit down as hard as he did until I tasted blood in my mouth. I quickly pulled back, spitting the blood out, as I glare at Jasper who now had an expression of awe looking at me.
“Now we are even….” I muttered, my eyes not leaving Jaspers. I could see the shock turn into something else as he began laughing. Full on body laugh, as he put one of his arms on his middle and the other covering his mouth, trying to keep the laugh down. I looked at him with an unimpressed look, trying to keep myself from throwing up from the metallic taste in my mouth.
“You really are something else.” Jasper laughs, standing up, eyes going down to the bite mark I left. He brings it up to his mouth licking the remnants of blood away, “You really are a firecracker. Maybe I should call you that instead of little sparrow.”
“I'd rather you not call me any nickname.” I snarked back, my patience is wearing thin around this man. I just want to sleep and forget about where I am until the next test happens.
“Too bad. Little Sparrow still has a nice ring to it.” He’s still chuckling to himself as he looks down at me. He pushed some of his hair out of his face, smiling. I didn’t blink at the full on blinding joy in that smile.
“I shall see you later little sparrow. I’ll have someone come clean your wound out. Don’t need you getting sick or infected, now can we? Not before all the tests are done.”
He gives off a low laugh that ends up echoing through the room. It had a crazy note to it, his eyes wild. I kept my mouth shut, not wanting to see if he would give me another bite. I didn’t want to find out. Being around this man was exhausting. I didn’t know if I could do it twenty-four seven without wanting to hithim. He looks at me one more time before leaving the smile still in place on his face, the door shutting loudly, leaving me alone in the cell.
Chapter Thirteen
Jasper
“Very interesting indeed.” Seems mundane to say, but it’s true. Walking away from the hall that has all of the holding cells, I make my way into a side room, where my brothers are sitting, going over everything that happened today.
“Our little bird definitely has strong teeth,” I tell them as I walk into the room. Letting my body flop onto the couch next to Marcus.
“Teeth?” Owen asks, frowning as he turns from his conversation with Elijah to look at me. Holding up my arm to show the bite mark she gave me, sends a thrill through me, making me smile. Not only did she thoroughly shock me, she seriously turned me on. Licking my lips, I remember the taste of her blood.
“She actually bit you…” Elijah sits back in shock, while looking at the still bleeding bite mark on me. My smile grows as and it’s obvious that my enthusiasm is being felt by my brothers.
“She did, but to be fair, I did bite her first…” I trail off, leaning back further into the couch. “After she released me, she said‘now we are even’. She’s definitely a spitfire!” I laugh, thoroughly amused by the girl our grandfather picked. I thought she was a little different than the other girls, but she is proving to be something else.
“Someone should go clean and wrap the bite on her shoulder. She seems pretty disgruntled.” As I’m telling them this, they’re looking at me while shaking their heads. They’re used to my antics by now.
“Who wants alone time with her next?” I ask, knowing that each of us wants to talk to her and gauge her personally. We don’t do it this way with the other girls. We’re doing this a little more personally than normal.
“I know Marcus hasn’t had any time to really talk to her. Do you want to go?” I can see Marcus shaking his head, making me frown a bit.
“Why not?” I thought he’d like a chance to talk to her more. I know we’re all curious, so I don’t see why he doesn't want one-on-one time with her.
“I’m not good at treating wounds for one.” Marcus rolls his eyes at me. I pause at this, knowing he definitely has a point. Elijah and Owen are more capable of doing that. Marcus and I are more likely to make something worse than fix it.
“Isn’t that a pity.” I snort looking at the other two. I know both of them will want to see her, but I have a feeling Elijah will be the one going. He’s the oldest, and he probably wants to see how she is after the death and the little session I just had with her.
“Victoria’s definitely in a bit of shock, but by the time I left she was definitely back to normal with a bite to her words.” She bounces back from trauma pretty quickly. Which is definitely something one needs with our family. I’d love to get to a point where she gets rid of her morals against murder.
“So, she didn’t have a breakdown or anything?” Elijah asks, I can see the glint of satisfaction in his eyes. It was his idea to kill the girl in front of her. It’s surprising because he’s not been one to use such a brutal hand on the first test. Maybe he’s becoming impatient like the rest of us.
