“Their leader sent themto find me.”

?Chapter 31 – An impromptu Meeting?

After realizing that Lupus is after me, Ariven and I quickly rush back to the guest house while I link for Lace, Mika, and Lena to join us in the meeting room there. After changing into clothes quickly, thanks to Maddie and Matt waiting for us just inside the building with said clothes, the four of us joined the Hidden Claws wolves right away.

“What’s with the impromptu meeting?” Mika asks as soon as I enter the room, grabbing a blueberry scone on my way to take a seat.

“I’ll explain later, but first, I need some details on the two small attacks while I was indisposed.” My reply is straight to the point, and I look to Lena, the she-wolf looking between Mika and Ariven as my former mate gives my new mate a death glare.

“There were five wolves each time. At first, there were no signs, no scent of them. It wasn’t until Lena and I were nearly on top of the first group during the end of our patrol that we noticed them outside the pack house.” Lace answers after a moment of silence. I take a bite of my scone and think for a moment. The first group being near the pack house meant they were looking and scouting. Their lack of scent-

“They have a witch. Whether she is a part of the team or abducted by Lupus, the witch is helping them.” I state, running a hand through my hair. This added to the complexity of the Soulless problem. Instinct tells me there is a war brewing.

“What about the second group?” Ariven asks as hehands me a mug of peppermint tea and another scone before taking a seat beside me.

“They were by the guest house. I was coming over to see how you were when I walked into the group in the forest just outside.” Mika answers, looking me in the eye. I can see the hurt and pain of losing me as his mate. Honestly, it’s his own fault and his own problem to deal with. He rejected me, abused me, and made my life hell. He’s just lucky that he’s changed, and we can build somewhat of a friendship.

“At any point in these attacks, did you see a wolf with ice-blue eyes?” I ask, looking at the three wolves in front of me. “Lace and I never saw anyone like that.” Lena answers, looking at Mika.

“I did, but he took off as soon as he realized backup was coming to kill his Soulless.” Mika says, and I frown.

“You saw Lupus. Every Soulless has bright red or black eyes. Ice-blue is the only rare colour I have seen in the Soulless world.” I close my eyes, realizing the problem is bigger than expected, too much for just our two packs to handle. I’ll have to call in some help from one of the strongest wolves I know.

“Double the patrol and look for moonstones. They will counteract the witch’s magic so your pack can sense the Soulless like usual.” I order, standing from my chair and making my way to the door.

“Where are you going?” Mika asks, taking a few steps forward, only to be stopped by his sister, who shakes her head in warning as Ariven steps closer to me, wary of my ex-mate.

“I am going to be calling in some backup. Trust me when I say we are going to need her with this war brewing.” With my answer given, I leave the room with my thoughts in a mess. It will takeher another week to join us, and hopefully, she canbring a few strong wolves with her.

?Chapter 32 – A Fiery Introduction?

"You are sure she is coming?" Lace asks as she, Mika, Ariven, and I relax on the steps to the pack house. I roll my eyes, leaning into Ariven and yawning. Since realizing that Lupus wants me for some unknown reason, the nightmares have been plaguing me.

“Amberle is nothing if not punctually late. She also keeps her promises and promised me she would be here today.” My response is lazy, not caring to explain how Amberle operates, considering she is one wolf that scares me some days. Being a trained Tracker and Alpha as well, Amberle has been my best friend and confidant when I needed some advice. As well as being a fellow rejected, she understood the pain I went through for the last three years. Ariven’s arms tighten around me, pulling me closer to him as his lips place a gentle kiss on top of my head. I smile, the sparks from our mate bond tingling along my skin.

“How will we know she is here?” Mika grinds out, his voice holding a hint of anger. I open my eyes slightly to see him glaring at Ariven, and I sigh internally. There is no use in Mika being jealous, considering he had his chance and ruined it.

“You’ll know. She has this… Way of introducing herself.” Ariven answers cryptically, playing with my loose curls. I can see the jealousy in Mika’s eyes and the way he looks at Ariven’s hands whenever my mate holds me. I can’t help but egg him on even more, relishing in the touch of my mate while pissing off my ex being the perfect petty behaviour to amuse and entertain methese last eight days while training Lace’s pack. Sounds of howls resound from the middle of the forest surrounding Hidden Claws, Mika’s and Lace’s eyes glazing over and I chuckle.

“Damnit. First Soulless, now a Rogue at our borders!” Lace curses, rushing from her seat on the steps and taking a few steps away from us.

“Where are you going?” I call out, keeping my senses open as shouts and whimpers are heard. I chuckle, imagining the chaos happening and what response I will soon be receiving from her.

“To help my pack!” Lace shouts over her shoulder as Mika stares at Ariven and I incredulously.

“Why are you so calm?” He asks anger in his voice as his body tenses and fists clench.

“Because there’s no threat.” Ariven retorts with a snort, his eyes keeping track of Mika’s movements, ready to protect me at a moment’s notice. Again, I roll my eyes and wait for the inevitable.

[Someone looks comfortable.] Amberle links me, and I smile.

[Very. Having fun?] I ask, hearing her chuckle as my confirmation. She is close, I can sense it. More screams and howls ring through the air, Mika scoffing at us as he turns to join his sister who also sends a glare our way. I get their point of wanting to protect their pack, but there is no danger as there is no Rogue loose in their pack.

“Mika, watch out!” Lace shouts just as a red, orange, and yellow blur rushes out of the trees and tackles Mika to the ground. I smile, the wind blowing through the fiery wolf’s fur as Amberle holds my ex mate down, her lips pulled back in a snarl as she waits to see if the Alpha wolf below her will try anything. She is fierce and beautiful as always.

“Fire, be nice.” A deep voice chides her as if a parent talking to their child, and I burst into laughter as Dominic comes out and leans against a tree. Amberle turns her head to face her mate, eyes rolling in annoyance as she looks between Mika and me.

“I don’t care who he is. You still have to be nice.” A rumble of disapproval is heard from my friend as she glares at her mate, another pause of silence.
