“About eleven hours.” Rock’s words are muffled as he speaks around a mouthful of food. “You were snoring so loud, I’m surprised you didn’t wake yourself up.”

I roll my eyes, not in the mood to deal with his jokes. It’s way too early for that.

“Have you just been hanging out in here? Do you know if we’re allowed to go outside?” I ask, serving myself some of the leftovers.

There’s a pan left out from when Rock heated his up earlier, but I don’t have the patience and eat it cold. It tastes just as good, and I hum quietly as I take a few bites.

Mammon strictly ate demon food, and while I don’t necessarily have a problem with it, it’s honestly lacking flavor. The shifters seem to enjoy spices, which is a blessing.

“The shifters will have my head if I leave the cabin,” Rock says. “Kato came by while you were asleep and said Chev would be by shortly to show you around.” He kicks his feet up on the coffee table.

It’s odd seeing him so relaxed.

“Did he say when?” I ask, glancing at the clock.

Instead of answering, Rock stands and stomps toward me with a deep-set frown. My hand freezes halfway to my mouth as I take in his angry expression, unable to understand where it’s coming from. He comes to a halt and scans my face and torso with a scowl.

“Where’s your necklace?” he asks, taking it upon himself to yank down the front of my shirt.

I gasp and shove his hands away as the action exposes my bare breasts, but Rock hardly seems to notice as he searches for the small stone.

“In the bathroom. I took it off to shower,” I explain.

Rock drops my shirt, and I clutch my stretched-out neckline to my chest as he spins and storms into the bathroom.

His sudden outburst is shocking, and I remain frozen until he returns with the necklace clutched delicately in his hands. He moves slowly, careful not to do anything to set it off as he approaches and holds it out for me to take.

“I’m not risking my life in the shifter lands only for you to be careless with the best form of protection you’ve got. Don’t take it off again,” he scolds.

“I’m sorry,” I say, clasping it around my neck. “I try to keep it from getting wet so the chain doesn’t get ruined.”

Rock scoffs and gestures to the thin metal. “Do you think Silas didn’t think of that? It’s enchanted and it will take more than a little water to ruin it.”

My cheeks warm as I nod. I hate when Rock scolds me, but he has a point. I’m usually careful to put the necklace back on after my showers, and I never took it off when I was staying with Mammon, but I feel comfortable around Rock and let my guard down.

It was thoughtless.

“Did you tell my males I’m no longer in Greed?” I ask, changing the subject.

Rock returns to the couch. “I told them last night. They weren’t happy about it, specifically Gray, but they won’t be bothering you.”

I’m not sure how much I believe Rock’s claim that they won’t bother me, but I don’t argue as I force myself to eat before Chev gets here. I can’t lie and say I’m not nervous about leaving Rock, but I don’t want to insult the shifters by telling themno.

My heart is pounding when a quiet knock echoes throughout the room, and I suck in a shaky breath before approaching the front door and pulling it open.

Chev stands on the other side.

“Good morning,” he says.

He’s wearing the usual leather skirt, and I can’t help but immediately notice the material’s ridden up to show most, if not all, of his thighs.

“You’re exposing yourself,” Rock shouts, finding no issues letting the shifter know.

Chev grunts, looking a bit embarrassed as his chest turns red and he tugs it down. “I ripped my bottoms hunting, and I’m borrowing a pair from a smaller male,” he explains, wrestling with the fabric.

I wonder if they’ve ever heard of pants, or even a skort, but I can’t bring myself to ask. I don’t know these people well enough to joke around with them.

“Would you like me to show you around? My sister wants to meet you.” Chev steps back and gestures in the direction where the heart of the pack resides.
