__________
I drop into a low crouch as I come up on Aziel’s office door.
Things were awkward after our intimate moment by proxy of Gray, and the incident with Shay has only made it worse.
My pulse races as I peek into the open doorway. This is a quick errand, and I’ll be in and out.
Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, I straighten up and step into Aziel’s office. He stands with his back to me, and I hold my breath as he grabs a giant book off his shelves.
I wish Gray would have brought Aziel the files himself.
He could teleport in and out in the time it takes me to hurry down the short hallway. My lips purse. Gray probably sent me here to get me out of his office. He tries to hide it, but I know he finds me being in his space all day distracting.
Especially when Rock’s tutoring me.
I shift my weight from foot to foot. The sooner I get this over with, the sooner I can leave.
Clearing my throat, I raise my fist and knock on the inside of the doorframe.
Aziel hardly seems surprised by my presence as he turns and gestures for me to enter. My fingers dig into the edges of the papers as I step inside, and Aziel makes his way to his seat.
“Gray told me to bring you these,” I say, holding out the files Gray shoved into my arms only moments prior.
Without meaning to, my eyes fall to Aziel’s hands.
They’re large, and I can’t get the mental image of him touching himself out of my head. I wish Gray hadn’t told me what Aziel was doing that night, and I regret how much I enjoyed it. Aziel’s been nothing but rude to me, and I feel weak over how badly I still want him.
It’s probably some unresolved childhood trauma rearing its ugly head. A sane person wouldn’t find themselves attracted to the man who treats them like shit. They’d hate him.
Aziel grunts, his hands clenching into fists before he relaxes and takes the files from me.
I turn, eager to leave.
“Stop,” Aziel says.
I freeze.
“Come here,” he continues.
I wipe my palms on my pants before turning back to Aziel. He pays me no attention as he reaches into one of the drawers of his desk. I scratch the back of my palm as I wait to see what he’s doing.
I know he keeps my candy in his desk now, and if he offers me a piece as payment for being Gray’s errand girl, I’m going to throw myself over this desk and strangle him myself.
“Take this to Gray.” Aziel pulls out an unopened box.
What’s this? I cannot hide my curiosity as I take the item from him. There’s a picture of a keyboard on the front, but it’s lighter than I’d expect one to be. Without thinking, I give the package a little shake.
“Charlie!” Aziel stares at me like I’ve grown three heads.
I want to crawl into a hole and die. I avoid eye contact with Aziel as I turn and practically run to the door. Why do I always have to be so fucking embarrassing?
The box falls from my hands as I’m abruptly pulled into a hard chest. I gasp, my brain struggling to comprehend what’s happening as Aziel wraps his arms around my torso and yanks me against him.
I grab at his arm, both alarmed and thrown off-balance.
“What?” My thoughts vanish as I spot a woman standing in the doorway.
Her long, silky black hair and equally black eyes tell me she’s a demon, and her confident, graceful movements and coy smile tell me she’s a succubus.
