I laughed as I reached over on top of the toolbox near us and grabbed a tablet. Pulling up the schedule next week, I scanned to see if we had an afternoon for me to start working on this. It was a bigger project because of the size and scale of the design he wanted.

“Let’s see… I could start it on Wednesday and should have it all done by Friday afternoon, if that works for you?” I looked up at him with anticipation.

“Yeah, works for me. I’ll drop it off. See you then, girl.” He strutted over to his ride and hopped in it, driving it out of the shop and down the alley into the night.

I sighed, content for having another very satisfied client. “Time to lock up and head home. Not a bad way to kick off the week—that’s for sure.”

I walked around and started turning off the lights. Dad walked down the stairs and stopped to arm the security system before we stepped outside and locked the roll-up and main doors to the shop. Just another awesome day of doing what I loved. I could go to sleep, feeling happy about that at least.

CHAPTER 31

ROSALIE

Kordell had finally textedme back this morning while I cooked eggs and bacon, but all I felt was a burning feeling of annoyance as I read his message, and a scowl made my eyebrows pinch together.

Kordell

Hey, mama. Be home in a couple of hours.

That was it.

Nosorry I have been a giant dick and ignoring you for days noworhey, I know I should have texted or called you more, and I’m just the biggest pile of dog poop for not checking in on you.

I glared at my phone as if it was its fault for what Kordell had messaged me as I angrily flipped the eggs over onto my plate. Tossing the bacon on top of them, I grabbed my plate and fork and stomped over to the table. Sitting down, I groaned in frustration.

“I can’t believe he’s acting like everything is fine!” I snapped as I shoveled a bite of food into my mouth. I even chewed angrily.

Within a couple of minutes, I was done and began cleaning up and looking out the window to the back patio with the smallpool reflecting the morning sunlight. I sighed as I dried and put the dishes away. Then, I grabbed another cup of coffee and went back over to the table and sat down, deciding to scroll through social media to help me calm down.

Before I knew it, I had gotten sucked into the black hole of social posts and messages from friends, and for a brief moment, everything was fine. Then, I heard his bike pull into the driveway, and I snapped out of it. Looking at the clock on my phone, I was shocked I had gotten sucked in for almost an hour and a half. The door opened, and I turned in my chair to face the entryway.

He walked into the kitchen after pulling off his black motorcycle boots with the biggest smile on his face. Like it was just a typical afternoon from before it all had gone down and he had been coming home on the regular.

“Nice of you to swing by finally.” I crossed my arms in front of my chest, leaning on the table with a frown growing on my face.

Kordell cocked his head to the side, raising an eyebrow. He walked over and ran his hands from around my waist to grip my butt firmly. He leaned in, and I closed my eyes as he kissed my lips before biting the lower one a bit as his hands kept rubbing.

“Don’t be like that. I was busy. I’m here now.”

I closed my eyes with a small groan. “That’s still beside the point, and you know it.”

“Look, let me make it up to you. There’s a newer club in the city opening tonight. Let’s hit it together.”

Kordell rubbed my lower back and gave me the look that had me sighing and caving to his request. Maybe going out wouldn’t be the worst thing. It would keep me distracted at least.

I sighed. “I don’t know. I’m still pretty mad at you for not being here lately.”

I didn’t finish what I was really thinking. That he’d just shown up out of nowhere, like nothing had ever gone wrong, expecting me to be good with going and doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. It was making me feel torn about what I really wanted to do.

He laughed and turned me toward the stairs, giving my ass a firm smack. “Then, get up there and get ready. Need the VP’s girl looking hot as shit when we go out tonight.”

He leaned against the counter and pulled out his phone. Oblivious to anything I wanted to still talk to him about.

I sighed again, but decided to walk up the stairs. I needed more time to think anyway. After quickly doing my hair and makeup, I went into my closet and started to flip through the few dresses I actually owned, settling on a skintight, mid-thigh-length black dress. Pairing it with the lowest heels I could get by with and a dainty necklace.

I walked back out into the bedroom, where Kordell sat, freshly changed himself. I looked at him as his eyes caught mine before they went slowly up and down my body. He let out a whistle.

“Damn, mama. Look at you and your fine ass. Give me a spin and let me see the whole thing.”
