He brought the truck to a stop and reached over and slapped my face before gripping my chin hard. “Try a stunt like that again, and you won’t like what happens to you, bitch.” His breath was warm and smelled like cigarettes.
I turned my head toward the windshield, holding back tears from the pain, and saw my captor walking out onto the porch, looking at the truck.
Mack opened and slammed his truck door as he started around the front. “Lost someone, did you?” he shouted angrily at the man as he grabbed my door handle and yanked it open.
I tried to move away from him, but he grabbed my wrist and yanked me out of the truck and onto the hot, dry ground next to it. I coughed as dirt got into my mouth, and then he started to pull my wrist binding. I had to either move or be dragged, so I tried to move as fast as I could.
“How in the fuck did you find her?” He scratched his head as Mack walked me up onto the porch.
I struggled against his grip. Maybe I could get away. But it was like trying to get away from a wall. He wasn’t moving at all from me tugging and yanking him. And suddenly, he growled.
“Knock it the fuck off!”
He yanked me forward, and I fell into his arms. He wrapped them around me, holding the side of my face next to his. He breathed heavily into my ear.
“I love it when a woman struggles against me; it’s such a fucking turn-on. So, keep it up, and I’ll show you just how true that statement I made to you at the clubhouse is on how much better I am at fucking a woman than the enforcer is.”
I stilled. Why would he still call him the enforcer? I knew how big of a deal it was to address people properly in the club. Kordell had told me to refer to him as the VP or the vice president whenever I was at the clubhouse if I needed to find him. Never use his old title. So, why was Mack doing that?
“Why do you call him that?” I asked. I talked when I was nervous. I couldn’t help it. “Why do you keep calling Kordell the enforcer? H-he’s not the enforcer anymore. He’s the vice pres—” I was cut off mid-sentence by his hand slapping over my mouth. My eyes went wide as the look on his face twisted to one of pure loathing.
“He will be the vice president over my fucking dead body,” his voice coolly spoke. He lowered his hand.
“Why are you doing this?! Kordell has done nothing but work hard to help the clubhouse!” I glared at him as I spoke.
Kordell had been doing so much. He spent long nights and weekends doing what he could for the benefit of the clubhouse, and while I didn’t know the details of what he did, I could tell he worked hard at it.
“That’s a laugh! First he went behind my back to get a deal with a client, and then he ended up losing the products for the deal. But instead of coming to me and accepting that he messed up and should step out of the running for vice president, he went and made a mess of it by killing people.” Mack slammed his fist against the wall.
I jumped at the impact, and my eyes went wide. “W-what do you mean, killing people? Kordell would never do that!”
“He did. He killed my boss and a couple of my friends,” the Suns’ sergeant told me coldly.
There was no way I was going to believe these guys.
“I-I don’t believe you!” I cried as their words processed in my mind.
“I don’t give a flying fuck if you believe me, bitch. So, why don’t you shut your fucking mouth? Last warning. Do you understand? NOD if you FUCKING UNDERSTAND,” Mack snapped at me as he glared at me, his eyes radiating fury.
I nodded my head quickly up.Just keep it cool, Rosalie, stop talking. It’s only making him even angrier.
He dropped his hand and threw me into the arms of the sergeant of arms from the Suns. I whimpered as he wrapped his arms around my body tightly.
“You caused me enough trouble. I’m gonna clip your wings, pretty girl.” he rumbled into my ear, and I tilted my head toward him, afraid of what he might do.
But what he did wasn’t as scary as I’d thought. He just tied my hands and feet together again, and then he tied my arms pointed down toward my ankles so I couldn’t lift my arms past my shoulders. Oh, and he tied another rope to my wrists before tying it to his belt. So, here I was, sitting on the worn couch next to him, as Mack paced in front of us.
“You’re sure your other guy got the stuff set up for him to find?” he asked the man on the couch.
He nodded. “Yep, and he’s sitting inside a house across the way that was easy enough to break into. He won’t miss him whenever he shows up. And if your guy isn’t a complete moron, it should be soon. We were told he took off almost two hours ago from the clubhouse.”
“Good, good. Hey, tell him to record it. I want to see the look on his face when he finds the message.” Mack leered at me. “Wish I were here to see the state you were in when they took the last one. The panties were a nice touch. Wish I had thought about that.”
I leaned as far back into the couch as I could and looked down. He was making me so uncomfortable with the way he was looking at me.
“Why are you doing this? Kordell loves the clubhouse. Why would you betray him?” I said quietly as I stared at him.
“Why? Because Kordell came in and moved up the ranks, above those who should have that seat before him. Because he weaseled his way into the last VP’s and the current president’s good graces, so he got the vice president role because he was their personal favorite even though the rest of the club knows I’m a better man for the job. I’m not distracted like he is. So, I’ll remove him from the equation. Wanna know how it’s going to happen?”
