Darcy blushed again.
“Does she know the truth?” she asked.
“Nope. It’s easier this way, to think that I found a good girl to date,” he said. He hadn’t even thought about telling his mom the truth. When their charade ended, he would tell his mom that they’d broken up. He didn’t get to see her as much as he wanted, so the odds of her actually meeting Darcy were slim.
“Makes sense. Well. Um. I should probably get back to work,” she said, draining the rest of her cup and standing.
“What time do you get out of here?” he asked, pushing back from his seat.
“Not for another hour at least. Why?”
“Thought I could give you a ride home, if you wanted. You know, since I’m a doting boyfriend.” He leaned in and brushed his lips against her ear. He loved that she stiffened this time.
She laughed softly. “I’m good. But I’ll see you tomorrow, after the game, right?”
“Definitely. C&B and some making out in the corner.” He paused. “For show, of course.”
“Of course.”
He was still trying to figure out her tone as he walked out of the coffee shop.
