“You know me too well already.” I leaned in to brush my lips against her neck. The faint smell of pineapple and coconut made me groan.

Josie stepped back, her expression growing more serious. “I really think getting out of the house would be good for her...and you.”

“I know.” I sighed because deep down, I knew she was right. If I stopped trying every time I was worried, we’d never go anywhere. “I don’t want to see her hurt.”

“This is right down the street, so if it gets to be too much for either of you, we can come home.” Josie smiled, brushing her thumb over my cheek. “Plus, you don’t want me to go alone and find another hot single dad, do you? How opposed are you to sharing?”

I turned my face and nipped at the palm of her hand before kissing it. “Mine.”

“You being all possessive and growly is doing something to my lady bits.” She bit her lip and, fuck, if my cock didn’t jerk in my jeans.

“Your lady bits, hmm? Sounds like I need to check to make sure everything is okay with them.” I guided her back, so I could look down her body. “It’s hard to tell. I’ll need you to bend over for me.”

She swatted my chest and went back around the island. “Later, if you’re a good boy.”

“I’m always a good boy, especially with my tongue.” I looked over at the stairs as Delaney barreled down, two dolls clutched to her chest. “Good thing you didn’t bend over.”

Delaney ran into the kitchen, her blonde hair flying behind her as she held up her two dolls with wonky-looking braided pigtails. “Josie, look! I did it!”

Josie gasped, taking one of the dolls and examining the hair. “These look amazing! You did such a good job.”

Josie was such a natural with Delaney, it was hard to believe she didn’t have much experience with kids. That had concerned me at first, but she was a natural caretaker. She’d become such an important part of Delaney’s life, and mine too, if I was being honest.

“Those are some seriously fancy braids. Do you think you could do my hair like that?” I ran my fingers through my hair. “I need a new look.”

Delaney giggled. “Daddy, your hair isn’t long enough!”

I put my hand over my heart. “You wound me.”

“We can order you a wig.” Josie smirked, and she was definitely going to get bent over later for that.

“Can we?” Delaney bounced on the balls of her feet, her giggles making me want to join in. “Pink with sparkles!”

“Done.” Josie winked at me before looking down at Delaney. “Do you want me to braid your hair? I have some red sparkle ribbon we can braid into it.”

Delaney’s eyes went wide. “Yes, please!”

“Why don’t you go wash your hands, and you can help me finish the fruit skewers. Then we’ll do your hair.” Josie held up a skewer that had blueberries at the top and alternated strawberries and bananas on the bottom.

Delaney put her dolls on the barstool next to me before running to the main level bathroom to wash her hands.

“If you buy a pink wig . . .”

“I bet you look great in pink. It will make your eyes pop.” She threw a blueberry at me, and it hit me in the chest before landing on the counter.

“You’re asking for it.” I popped the small berry into my mouth.

“I’m not asking, Gabriel. I’m begging.” Her look was heated, but it disappeared as Delaney skipped back into the room.

She came to a stop next to Josie and grabbed a chunk of strawberry. “That’s a lot of fruit.” She tossed the fruit into her mouth. “Mm.”

“Josie is making them for the neighborhood block party tonight.” This was as good a time as any to see how Delaney felt about going out. “We thought it would be fun to go.”

“What’s a block party?” Delaney intently watched Josie slide fruit onto a skewer.

“It’s a big party that all our neighbors are having down the street. There’s going to be music, games, food, and fireworks when it gets dark... I think they might even have a bounce house.”

I was going to pretend that the idea of a bunch of kids going crazy in an inflatable didn’t freak me out.
