I took hold of her hand and removed it, eliciting a whine from her. "I told you, Carl, no more."
That conversation a few days ago had gone really well. She didn't know I had a mate, but I told her there was someone else. She was never someone serious anyway, just a warm body.
"Boss, the woman ran," Ray said from across the room. "We tried to chase after her, but she was gone by the time we got out onto the highway."
I shut my eyes and my chest heaved as anger swelled inside me. "What do you mean she's gone?"
They were a bunch of fucking idiots. No wonder I kept losing pack members to other packs.
"Uh... she ran. We couldn't catch her. She went out through a window in the storage room." He shrugged like he hadn't just lost the most important person in my life.
"Why the fuck was the door to the storage room unlocked?" I marched over to it and threw it open. "Still unlocked! Jesus Christ! I swear, it's a miracle we haven't been robbed! Get off your ass and fix it before I fix you."
I stormed back out of the building, slamming the door behind me. Bone and Rover were hot on my heels.
"Boss, what do you want us to do?"
"Fucking stay here and call me if she comes back." I knew where she might have gone, and she certainly wouldn't be coming back on her own. "And lock that damn door and secure the window."
Fifteen minutes later, I turned down Ivy's street, hoping I was right and she'd gone home. She wouldn't go back to the East Arbor Pack, not after what they did to her.
Just as I turned into her driveway, the garage door opened, and a vehicle started. Her eyes met mine in the rearview mirror and they narrowed. The reverse lights turned on and I barely had enough time to dive off my bike before she was backing into it.
"What the fuck?" I yelled, jumping to my feet and rounding the car to the driver's side door. "What are you doing?"
She revved the engine and attempted to back up over my bike that was now right behind her car. She was insane.
The back tires of the car made it over my bike, and then the car stalled and made a horrible screeching sound. She pounded her fists on the steering wheel and then threw the car in park and turned it off.
I took my helmet off and ran my fingers through my hair, trying to tell myself it was just a bike and it was probably fine. Maybe a scratch or two, a broken side mirror, a popped tire. It would be fine.
A giant kitchen knife appeared in her hand as she stared at me through the window. Her chest heaved, and her face was almost as red as her hair. It would have been sexy if I wasn't the reason for her wrath.
The door flew open and she jumped out, holding the knife in front of her. I dropped my helmet and held my hands up in surrender. "Look-"
"You look. You're going to give me your cell phone and then sit down and wait for the cops to get here." She was shaking so badly that I probably could have taken the knife from her if I went at her from the right angle.
"We do not need cops involved with this, bunny. Put the knife down and we can go inside and talk." I took a step forward, and she took a step back, right against the front end of the car, halting her retreat. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"I don't believe you." She adjusted her grip, seeming unsure about how to hold the knife to stab me if I got closer. "Why was I naked in your room?"
"You know why, bunny." Another step. "You don't need to worry now, though. Dante took care of Cole so he can never hurt you again."
"Wh-what?" The knife fell to the ground, and before she could try to grab it again, I kicked it under the vehicle. "Cole didn't hurt me! Butyoudid!"
She smacked me across the face, and I covered the sting with my hand. "Jesus, what was that for? I didn't hurt you!"
"You made us crash!" She kicked out, and I turned before her foot could connect with my balls. "I was perfectly fine until then! This is all your fault!"
Her shrieking was going to attract attention. I grabbed her around the waist and covered her mouth with my hand, practically dragging her back into her open garage with her heels, trying to gain traction on the cement. It was a stupid idea, because I was sure she'd hate me even more for it, but she was a feisty one and she left me with no other choice.
I uncovered her mouth to press the garage door button, and she screamed bloody murder. It was a piercing scream that made my ears hurt and my blood pressure shoot sky high.
"Enough!" My alpha voice came out next to her ear, and her scream cut off abruptly as the door descended, leaving us in the dark. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"Please... just let me go save my mates." Her voice was muddled, and she sniffled.
Ah, shit. Was she crying? And what the hell did she mean bymates?
