I released him and backed up."Why did you follow me?"

I don't know why I spoke to him that way, but something innate told me we had a connection now. What that meant exactly, I was just going to ignore. For now.

"I wanted to make sure you were safe. What the hell is happening right now? How did you do that?"He was still on the ground, staring up at me with wolf eyes that were not unlike Eli's and Cole's, but a lighter shade of amber.

"I have no idea. For a while, both Cole and I had connections to Eli. I still do... with all three of them, but I don't know if Cole can talk to Eli anymore."I swiveled my head and looked back at the deer."Dammit. I don't like killing deer, but I can't stop myself."

Silas finally got to his feet and carefully walked over to assess the dead animal."He's a big one. I'm surprised you took him down."

We stared down at Bambi's father, and a tear dripped down my face. Silas came closer to me and nuzzled his head against my shoulder."Don't worry about it. I'll have Bone come out here and grab him for dinner. Just think of them like cows of the forest."

"Cows of the forest?"I snorted and wondered what it looked like when a wolf smiled. I needed to find a mirror and check my wolf out.

"Like tuna is the chicken of the sea."Silas sniffed the air and started walking farther into the forest."Are you coming?"

"The den is back the other way. Where are you going?"I took a few steps after him, but hesitated.

"I want to show you something."He took off like a bullet, and I was left with no other choice but to follow him or go back alone.

My curiosity piqued, so I ran after him, easily catching up and matching our strides as we ran through the forest.

After a few minutes, we exited the trees into a clearing, a large cabin standing before us. It had been neglected for what looked like several years. There were vines and foliage growing up the sides of it, and dead leaves and branches on the roof.

If I hadn't watched so many horror movies about cabins in the woods, I would have been all for a little adventure."What is this place?"

"It's my family home."He shifted back and walked toward the porch steps. "I haven't been here in a while, but now that you're around, maybe I'll fix it back up again."

I followed him, not shifting back yet, and sniffed the air cautiously. It smelled safe, but what did I know?

"Are you going to shift so I can show you inside?" Silas turned and looked at me.

"No. I've seen how this horror movie plays out."

In a flash, Silas shifted back to his wolf and was right in front of me. He started licking at my muzzle, and I was so shocked that I just stood there, processing that he was kissing me, and I was letting him.

Chapter Twelve

Silas

This woman had my wolf at her feet and wanting to roll over. He wanted nothing more than to please her, which went strictly against the alpha side of me. If any other would have come at me like she had, they would have been put in their place.

When she told me no, I shifted quicker than I ever had. My intention was to give her a nip to the hindquarters and remind her I was the alpha in this territory, but instead, I gave her muzzle a good lick.

I'd never been so bold with another female wolf before. In fact, I don't think I'd ever made a move on a woman while she was in her wolf form. At least from what I could remember.

I was just about to give her face a little nibble when she snapped at me, nearly taking off my tongue.

Jesus, she was feisty, but I liked it. I liked it a lot.

"So, this is how it's going to be?"I backed up a few steps to make sure she didn't take off the end of my nose. A nose scar wasn't an attractive look."Can't I get to know my mate more?"

"As a wolf?"Her teeth were still showing, and her ears went back a little."You kissed me! What's next? Are you going to mount me like a dog?"

I let out a yip."If that's what you want, it can be arranged."

She chuffed."Why are we here?"

"I want to show you my home... your home."I got an uneasy feeling in my belly, like she was about to turn and give me her back."Is this how you were with the other three, too?"
