"And you are fiercely protective of them, right? They are your pack too." She started pressing her buttons at a fast rate as she came out of hiding and started taking down the enemy.

She was right. I was protective of my friends and always had been. That didn't mean I still wasn't a little mad that she'd watched the security footage.

"I didn't tell Cole yet."

Sara didn’t respond at first. Whether it was because she just died on the game and I wasn't reviving her, or she was thinking, I’ll never know.

"It's Silas's dad... the one that paid the social worker." She put down her controller and turned toward me. "He disappeared a decade ago, and that's when Silas took over for the western pack. He was younger than me, so as you can imagine, it's been rough watching that pack fall apart."

"He's not a good alpha?" I turned off the game, my eyes burning from staring at the screen for too long. I liked video games, just not what they did to my eyes.

"I think he could be, but his father didn't exactly leave the pack in a good place. They were broke, and now that I know about the half million, that's probably why." Sara stood and stretched. "I'm going to head home."

Cole hadn’t returned, and I texted Eli to tell him I was concerned. He came down the hall a few minutes later, looking like he had just woken up from a nap. I raised an eyebrow as Xander came out behind him.

"I'll go look for him." Eli turned to Xander. "Are you going to be okay here with Ivy?"

Xander nodded and Eli went to the back door, leaving me alone with a wolf who had just been tranquilized because he attacked Cole.

He stared at me, not moving an inch, and I turned back toward the television. "Want to watch a movie?"

My body was attuned to his movements as he stepped forward. In the reflection on the television screen, I saw him staring down at the back of my head.

A part of me knew he wouldn't hurt me because we were mates, but that didn't stop a chill from spreading across my arms and a brief tremble escaped.

"You're cold." His voice was soft, almost a whisper, as he grabbed a crocheted blanket that was folded on a chair and came to stand in front of me.

Leaning forward, he threw it around me. I looked up at him and bit my lip, not sure what to say to this man. What if I upset him and he went crazy? Eli wouldn't have left him alone with me if he thought it was going to happen, though.

"Are you going to sit down?" I leaned back and held the controller up to point at the television. "Kind of hard to find something to watch with you standing in the way."

Instead of sitting, he laid down with his head in my lap. My heart rate sped up, and I distracted myself by quickly picking one of those small-town romance movies that were addicting.

After putting down the remote, I tried to figure out what to do with my hands and arms. Usually I hugged a pillow or kept my hands resting on my thighs, but I couldn't do that with a strange man's head in the way.

"I can move." His head started to lift, and I stopped him. He inhaled sharply before lowering back to rest his head on my thigh.

I kept my hand on his head, which was shaved short, the small hairs soft against my hand. "It's weird having a mate, isn't it?"

He grunted as I stroked his head. "You have three."

Three boyfriends was a lot to digest, and I hoped that was it because I didn't know how my vagina was going to handle more than three cocks. I snorted back a laugh and Xander rolled onto his back to look up at me.

"We're supposed to be watching the movie." Who was I kidding, I'd have to restart it because I missed the first few minutes and had no clue why the chick was crying in the airport.

"I want to look at your face." His green eyes were troubled, and his brows drew in as he stared up at me. He looked tired and like he hadn't slept in days, but was clean shaven with short hair. What I assumed were Eli's clothes, fit loosely on his body.

"Cole's been shot. Call Sara and get her to the house immediately."Eli's voice was frantic in my head and I jumped up without thinking about it, sending Xander flailing onto the floor.

"Where's my phone?" I patted my pockets and looked around frantically. "Fuck!"

With a shaking hand, Xander held out my phone, which must have fallen when I stood. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No! Cole's been shot!" I dialed Sara and yelled the same thing at her before rushing to the back door, Xander right behind me.

Time stood still as I went onto the deck and looked across the dark backyard. How could Cole have been shot? There were supposed to be patrols guarding the territory.

"This is all my fault." I jabbed my fingers through my hair and ran across the yard as Eli came into view, carrying a bloodied wolf in his arms. "What the hell happened?"
