It's not this part that scares me but the after. See, I have to kill every motherfucker involved, find the bomb so the military can extract it, and then save Kelsey and the entirety of the country by stopping a man that has been under the radar for more than two decades.
Harrison.
When I reach the property I was told about, it's abandoned other than one man who looks like he has seen prisons a time or two.
Russian, I figure, covered in tats, and his teeth are covered in a lot of gold and silver caps.
I fake interest, asking how the bomb will go off, how it will work and kill everyone in DC, how he will get out of there in time.
I am not allowed inside the house or the barn, still full of animals that’s on the property, and even though this man seems calm, I'm not told much other than to basically get out of dodge. That the bomb will be going off by nightfall, and I won’t want to beat round.
He doesn’t have to tell me twice. I have bigger fish to fry.
I dumb the truck as instructed before going to pick up a plane ticket at the airport that will take me to wherever Harrison is now hiding away waiting for this to unfold. Or, at least I thought it would be a plane ticket.
Instead, I find myself being led to a private air strip at the back of the airport where a plane is waiting.
It's full of luxury as I am brought on board, but my blood freezes as ice in my veins.
"Hello, Adam, it's so good to see you again."
Other than whoever is piloting this thing and me, two other people are on this plane; Harrison and Kelsey. And Kelsey is tied up in her seat, letting me know this is not the luxurious ride I thought it was going to be.
"Harrison, what a surprise. Good to see you too. Thought you'd be to safety by now, though.”
"Well, that was the plan, Adam, but I have another plan now. Why don’t you have a seat. We’re about to take off.”
I do as I was told even with the strange feeling in my stomach, and I strap in.
The plane takes off, and he begins to talk again as I try to meet with Kelsey’s eyes. She is squirming, and there are signs she had been crying, but she won’t look at me directly.
"You see, Adam, sometimes, there is no better person for a job you want done than yourself, especially when so many people around you are liars. Don't you think so, Adam?”
I scoff, still hoping if I play along I can stop whatever it is that’s about to happen. "No offense, but I don't fuckin' trust anyone either.”
"Yes, I would imagine the death of your brother would have caused some trust issues.”
The man's eyes flashed at me, and I knew we were all doomed.
I don’t even pretend like I can get around this. Not going to insult a man who has Kelsey tied up and me alone in this private plane after what I've done by pretending I know nothing. "Look, I didn’t lie. I have nothing to do with the cops, hate the guys. Don’t like the CIA much either, but they kind of gave me no option.”
"Oh, you could have been loyal to me instead. Had you told me, I would have done anything to protect you, become your new brother. But now, we will replace that bomb you have rendered useless.”
He is good.
Wait ... "Replace?”
"Yes, the jet fuel will do just fine. The Pentagon shutting down isn’t quite the same as the entire city, but it worked once, didn’t it?”
"Woah, slow down, if we crash the plane, that means you die too.”
"Yes, and become a hero to all my people. I will live forever.” that horrible chuckle of his escapes from his throat again, and I cringe. I let him talk himself into oblivion as I try to formulate a plan. How do I get this plane to land safely somewhere? How do I get rid of the pilot and Harrison?
I'm going to have to wait until the right moment. A moment that will probably be much too close for comfort.
