“How long have you been here?” Drake asked.
“Too long,” she murmured.
“So. . . you and Alessio huh?” he continued.
She licked her lips after drinking her shot. She didn’t answer the question, though.
“How old are you?” Drake pressed, giving her another shot.
“Nineteen.”
“Me too. What a coincidence.” Drake offered her a smile.
“Look, you don’t have to make small talk with me. If you’re going to fuck me, just do it,” she said in that small voice of hers.
“I’m not fucking you, and neither is he,” Drake said, nodding at me. “Right?”
“Right,” I grunted.
“Then what are we doing?” she asked.
“Killing some time. Taking a break. You look like you’d like a break,” Drake said.
She let out a sigh and visibly relaxed. “I would.”
“Good. So. . . answer my question. How long have you been here?”
“Three years.”
Fuck. Three years. This poor girl. . .
“Taken? Stolen from some dead parents?”
She shrugged. “Taken. Caught. Parents were dead many years before. I had a foster dad who would beat me a-and touch me. He owed Matteo a lot of money. Matteo came one day to collect with Klaus and Alessio. Alessio told me to run. I tried to run. I just didn’t get far before Matteo caught up to me.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Drake murmured.
Me fucking too.
She gave him a small, sad smile. “It’s fine. I’ve learned how to survive.”
“Yeah? You look like you’re barely hanging on,” I said, eyeing her.
Her red lips curled up further before she slammed her glass down, breaking it into large shards. I watched as she whippedthe piece across the room, bullseye-ing some ugly fucking portrait of a Renaissance man decorating the living space.
Right in the middle of the fucking forehead.
She winked at me before throwing another glass shard.
“Fucking nice,” Drake praised.
I blinked at her in shock. I hadn’t expected that.
“Where’d you learn that from?” I asked.
“Alessio,” she answered simply. “He takes care of me. Protects me. Taught me how to protect myself.”
“Yet you bring men up to your room to fuck on Matteo’s orders? How does that work? Because I’m sure you’re not wanting to do that.
