“You’re my first,” she admitted. “Matteo listens to Alessio about me. He’s never sent me upstairs with men before. Alessio is the only one.”

Drake frowned at that and glanced at me.

“Alessio? Just you and him?” I stared her down.

She nodded. “He’s good to me. Alessio. Even Matteo is. So I don’t know why I’ve been sent here for you.”

Drake looked at me. “Interesting, huh, Levin?”

“Very,” I muttered before taking the bottle of whiskey and slurping a large swig of it down. “Very fucking interesting.”

CHAPTER 33

Drake

I looked downat my watch, frowning.

It was graduation day, and I was missing that shit. I’d worked my ass off to graduate, and all I was going to get was a fucking diploma in the mail. Couldn’t even walk the aisle and accept it myself.

Neither could Levin, but I was sure he was more pissed off that he was missing seeing Bianca and the guys.

But hell, I was too. I figured maybe we’d at least get to go back and do graduation, but no. Instead, Matteo had us sitting in his office, staring us down. He’d welcomed me back without blinking an eye. My excuse had worked, and he’d seemed like he expected it to happen. I didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing, but judging by the fact that I was still breathing, it meant it was a good thing.

“You’ve both proven yourselves to me. I like that,” Matteo said. Alessio and Klaus stood behind him at his massive desk, both silent as the grave and keen eyes on us.

I inclined my head at him. I’d taken everything he’d thrown at me head-on. Never once did I hesitate. I never backed down.I never questioned shit. Getting in and getting out was the name of the game.

After Indigo passed out on the couch, Levin and I had left her. She was an interesting girl. I could only assume Matteo was giving us another test. In fact, I was sure of it. We hadn’t touched her. While she hadn’t said it, I had the inkling she may be harboring a lot of feelings for Alessio. God knew my heart was elsewhere. I honestly thought Levin was going to punch me in the face when I’d kissed on her. I just wanted it to look real. I felt nothing but disgust for doing it.

Of course, the thought went through my head that Indigo would tell Matteo we didn’t do shit with her but watch TV. I figured I’d just say she was lying, and we’d taken her to a bathroom stall and not her room. I’d cross that bridge if I had to journey to it. Something told me, though, she’d go along with whatever we needed her to. Her life most likely depended on it. If she couldn’t close the deal with us, Matteo would punish her.

I made sure she knew to say we’d fucked her.

She’d agreed without questioning it and had looked grateful. The alternative was that I just pulled my piece out and killed Matteo and hoped Klaus and Alessio didn’t kill me before I got my shot off.

At this point, it was fair to say I was winging it. Judging by what I’d seen of Levin, he was too. All in all, this gig sucked, and I wanted to go home to Bianca and the kings. We needed a better plan and fast. My trigger finger was getting itchy.

“Today is a special day. You graduate from Bolten,” Matteo continued.

We both remained silent.

“Unfortunately, you won’t be attending, but it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I have a need for you elsewhere, and this time, you’ll have a little help.”

The door to his office opened, and Anson Beyers stepped into the room.

I caught a quick look from Levin and cleared my throat.

“What do you need us to do?” I asked, looking back to Matteo, who stood and greeted Anson with a hug and a smile before cradling his face for a moment.

In that moment, though, I saw a bit of Matteo’s humanity shine through. I doubt he’d ever greeted Dom in such a manner, but it made sense. Anson was his real son. His true heir. Dom was the stain that reminded him he’d lost everything and had been forced into living a lie. I’d have resented everything too.

“My boy,” Matteo said fondly before backing away from him.

Anson gave him a quick smile before his blue eyes darted to us.

I could see the muscle along Levin’s jaw thrumming. The German fuck needed to rein it in a little.

Matteo walked to the bar in his office and nodded for us to go to him. We did so, settling on the stools while he poured us drinks, Alessio and Klaus at our backs. These fucks sure knew how to protect Matteo, I’d give them that. While I figured Alessio might pull his shot in another situation, like if he had to shoot me or something to make something look believable, I knew he’d put a bullet into my head if I so much as blinked too fast next to Matteo. That was loyalty.
