Dumbfounded, I backed away from his Jeep as he slid onto the driver’s seat. He gave me a wink and a wave before pulling out of the parking lot. Seeing the happiness on his face made my damn heart jump in my chest.
“How’d it go?” Lana called out to me as I ambled back to them, my mind racing.
“He’s coming over.”
“He is?” She laughed at me. “I knew you’d cave.”
“I … just …. he gets to me,” I admitted. I didn’t even know what that meant or why I’d bothered to say it.
She winked. “I know. We’ll have fun tonight.”
“I hope so.”
“We going?” Noah called out.
“Yep.” She looked back at me, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Let’s go. Who’s riding with who?” Noah asked.
“I’ll go with you. Lana can ride with Garrett.”
She smirked at me. “Nice. Maybe I can talk him into getting more snacks.”
I giggled. “If anyone can convince someone to do something, it’s you.”
CHAPTER28
Logan
At my house, I grabbed my overnight bag and sleeping bag and then hauled ass over to Lana’s, my heart in my throat. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. When Grace told me to fuck off earlier, I really thought that was it and I’d screwed up for good.
But now I was back in the game, and I wouldn’t take it for granted. What game that was anymore, I wasn’t sure. I wanted Grace unlike anything I’d ever wanted in my life, but I had to fucking beat Andy. Maybe if I told her what was going on, she’d be cool with it.
Or maybe she’d kick my ass and tell me to piss off for good. I couldn’t do that. The risk of her hating me if she found out were too great.
If I can get her to want me, to like me too, then maybe it’ll work out in the end. . .
“Hello?” I answered my phone as it rang.
It connected to my Bluetooth. Ryan’s voice sounded out in greeting throughout my Jeep, the noise of the party in the background.
“You coming?”
“No, man. Sorry. I’m actually going to hang out at Lana’s with Grace.”
“What? Why didn’t you call to tell me?”
I scoffed. “Why the hell does it matter?”
He grew quiet for a moment. “I think Lana is a cool chick.”
“Wait. Is she the chick you’ve been jonesing for?”
“Maybe,” he answered gruffly. “We talk sometimes. She sits in front of me in calculus. Hey, do you think I could tag along? The party is lame, man. Shit’s bogus without you here.”
“Aw, you miss me, baby?” I teased him.
“Whatever, dick. Can I come?”
