He looked down at his feet. “I messed up. I’m sorry.”

I smacked his shoulder. “Why though?” I studied him as he lifted his head and locked eyes with me. My heart was beating so fast I wondered if he could hear it. I swallowed as I waited for his answer, not sure how I’d even react if he confirmed this was his way of asking me to be his.

He shrugged. “I don’t know. I-I guess I was just trying to get your attention.”

“Logan, you’ve had my damn attention since school started. You don’t leave me alone long enough to let me forget you exist.”

He gave me a quick, sad smile. “I’m just trying to be your friend, Grace.”

Ah, there it was. Friend. Got it. I relaxed a bit, even if my heart sank just a little at his words.

“I’m an idiot, OK? I’m sorry I was being an asshole earlier. I’ll do whatever you want me to do. Please, forgive me?”

I sighed. “You’re really hard to understand. So the jersey meant nothing? Just you trying to get my attention, knowing it would upset me if I found out the significance behind it? And then you being a complete ass to Garrett? Just a douche move?”

“Yep.” He popped the P on the word and ran his fingers through his hair. “I guess I thought we were getting close. I didn’t want anything getting in the way.”

“You’re really weird.”

He let out a soft laugh. “Yeah, I guess I am.” He glanced over to my friends who were still hanging out at Noah and Garrett’s cars. “You guys still hanging out tonight?”

I followed his gaze and nodded. “Yeah.”

He gave me another quick, sad smile before he unlocked his Jeep. “Well, have fun, I guess.”

Damn it.

“Logan… Wait.”

He paused halfway into his Jeep and stared at me.

I let out a sigh. “If you bring something to drink, a snack, andpromise not to be a complete dick, you can come. You have to bring a sleeping bag though if you plan on staying the night.”

“I’m re-invited?” He raised his eyebrows, a grin spilling onto his lips that did something to my heart.

“Yes, on those conditions.”

“Wait. It’s a . . .slumberparty?”

I rolled my eyes at him, trying to maintain my composure. “We typically just stay over since no one wants to walk or drive home at three in the morning.”

“And your dad is OK with this?” He cocked his head at me.

“My dad knows I have friends who are guys,” I said with a soft laugh. “He’s OK with it. He doesn’t know they stay the night though, so I’d like to keep that under wraps if I could.”

Logan grinned at me. “You rebel.”

I shrugged, suppressing a smirk. “Lana’s parents are gone for the weekend. Not that it would matter. They’re chill with pretty much anything.”

“I’ll be there,” Logan said, his smile widening. “Do you want to ride with me?”

“I already told Noah I’d ride with him. And it’s just you invited. No oneelse.”

He nodded in acceptance. “I get it. It’s not a party. We’ll all just be sleeping together.”

I shook my head at him. “You wish.”

“Maybe I do.” He winked, his mood improving. “I’ll see you in a few, OK?”
