“Have you ever swam naked in a heated rooftop pool?” He waggles his eyebrows at me.
“I can’t say I have,” I laugh. Desire stirs in my core at the thought of it. It’s amazing how just his laugh and the mention of our bodies connecting again soothe me.This green-eyed monster has got to go.
His hand creeps higher up and under my dress as the chef comes back with our drinks. Bold fingers skim under my panties, lightly brushing my sensitive, exposed skin. Lainey must notice and makes herself scarce.
“Did you two ever have a thing?” I eye Lainey walking back to the kitchen.
Liam’s hand stops its exploration, and his face becomes stoic. “No, baby. Not at all. She has shown interest in me, but I never mixed our business relationship with pleasure. You have nothing to worry about there.” I relax, knowing it’s more one-sided than anything. I need to calm down.Jealousy is an ugly bitch.
Killian makes his grand entrance with a blushing Selena. He has an arm wrapped around her and his hand at the curve of her ass. Liam removes his hand from under the table and gives the back of my neck a gentle squeeze.
“Sorry to make you two wait. Welost track of time,” he smirks as his eyes drill into mine.
Oh, Killian. What game are you trying to play? And why is it working? I want Liam. I chose Liam—I mean, it wasn’t even really a choice. It was always him. So why am I still feeling anything toward Killian right now?
Killian slides the chair across from Liam out for Selena to sit and takes his seat across from me. Like a hawk, his eyes travel from my face to the new addition around my neck. He grabs the glass of water in front of him and takes a few sips.
His eyes blaze.
They find mine and hold them captive. He nods his head ever so slightly, acknowledging the presence of his necklace still on my neck.
Part of me wants to take it off this second to prove a point, but I have to behave. We are trying to play nice tonight, and I refuse to sink to Killian’s level.
Lainey comes in to take everyone’s orders for dinner and brings Killian and Selena their drinks. Another staff member comes in with a tray of soup and salad. The soup smells delicious and is one of my favorites—french onion.I would say it was just the chef’s choice, but then the salad is placed down, and it’s green goddess. My other favorite. I look up at Killian, and he shoots me a wink. I angrily spear a piece of avocado onto my fork and take a bite. Kil stifles a laugh into his napkin. I would roll my eyes at him, but Liam is watching our interaction now.
“Liam, I was so happy to hear from Killian the news that you are biological brothers.” Selena smiles and tosses her hair over her shoulder, revealing a hickey.
My blood boils.
What are we, teenagers?Deliberately leaving hickeys to be spiteful.
Killian’s games are going too far now. I said he should be with her and I meant that. He doesn’t need to shove it in my face. This whole situation is a disaster waiting to happen. He’s an ass for using Selena as collateral damage in his stupid games.
“It was a surprise to both of us. I have always felt like a brother to him, regardless.”
“I’m happy for you, Liam. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this smitten before.” She looks at me with a gentle smile on her face.
Liam wraps his hand around mine and gives it a gentle squeeze. “You definitely haven’t. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. And damn, Sel. It’s nice to see your face around here again. I always knew you and Killian would find a way back to each other,” he chuckles, taking a sip of his soup.
The next hour goes bypainfullyslow. The three of them talk about their past adventures together. I drink about an entire bottle of Prosecco—not saying much. Liam and Killian took turns glancing my way, gauging my reactions to their stories.
We are standing in the corridor, saying our goodnights. Dessert was delicious—a dark chocolate mousse cake. I had to hold back a moan at how decadent it was. Selena did the opposite, moaning and sucking on the fork after each bite.
Liam shakes Killian’s hand and thanks him for the dinner. Selena comes over to me and pulls me into a hug.
“Madison, we really should hang out more when the men are busy at work. We might as well make the best of it while we are on lockdown. I’d love to get the chance to get to know you better.”
I pull back from her embrace and do my best to smile at her. I feel Killian’s intensity on my back. “I try to go to the gym once a day. I could use a workout partner,” I offer.
“Yes! That would be great!” She seems so cheerful and genuine. It’s not fair of me to be projecting my insecurities on her. I need to put aside my jealousy and try to give this girl a chance to be my friend. We may even be family one day.
Killian comes up next to her and drapes an arm around her shoulders. “Ready to head up, Lena?” He looks at her with lust hazing his eyes.
“Morethan ready.” She winks at him.
“Thank you for a lovely dinner, Killian,” I interrupt their flirting. I smile at him, and his eyes flash to my necklaces again. I am about to turn to Liam’s outstretched hand when Killian reaches for my new necklace, holding it between his fingers.
“Liam always loved ravens.” He releases it and kisses Selena’s temple, guiding her upstairs.
