“Liam, ya there?” Killian questions.
“Yeah, brother. Sorry, it’s my girl,” I sigh. “She wants me to go over there after my shift. I drove her home earlier because she was drugged. That’s another thing I need to talk with you about.” I come clean again. I respect Killian—not just as my boss—but as a brother too. He needs to know what went down tonight.
“I already heard about it. Conor told me when I checked in earlier. I’m fucking pissed you didn’t ask me first. Now knowing it was yer woman, I understand. In saying that, why don’t you go to her. Have the night of ya life, then clear your head a bit.”
“I want to,” I admit.
“Winter break is around the corner. The lass will be going home soon. Take the assignment I have for you in Miami and see how you feel when you come back. If you can’t be without her after some time away, then you have my blessing. Don’t let a connection that strong slip through your fingers. You know she’ll be safe with us.”
“Thanks Kil, I appreciate the advice. I'll take the assignment—send me the details. Oh, and good luck with yer woman, I hope it works out.” I let out a sigh of relief. That went better than expected.
“You got it. I need you to be at the jet with Kieran by 10 a.m. tomorrow, so enjoy your night and stop gossiping with me on the phone. I’ve got my own woman to message. Have a good night, sweetheart,” he laughs before ending the call.
I’m still hesitant about subjecting her to the underworld. An angel like her doesn’t belong there. I'd be tattooing her wings in black if I pulled her into my world—permanently sealing her fate. But Killian gave me the perspective I needed. We can keep her safe. Hell, there is an entire army to protect her.
Without getting back into it again, I pull my conversation back up with Maddy. I respond with the biggest shit-eating grin on my face. Perhaps, I can preserve her beautiful, flawless wings. I type quickly so I don’t change my mind.
Liam
Hello, beautiful. I was trying to be a gentleman and respect your boundaries. Especially since you were drugged, but the feeling is absolutely mutual. I wanted to ravish you all night. Hell, I’ve wanted to ravish you the moment I met you. Here’s the deal. I am leaving tomorrow on a business trip and I may be gone for a few months. If I come over tonight, I won’t have the restraint I had earlier. I want you. Badly. I’m leaving it up to you, princess. Are you sure this is what you want?
I watch with bated breath as the bubbles pop up on the screen.
Maddy
Please come. I need you. Even if it’s just for tonight…I need to feel alive again. I feel safe with you and I trust you.
Liam
I’ll be right over, love.
Holy shit. He’s actually coming over. I throw the covers off my body and race down the hall like a bat out of hell. Leah’s door is open. She stares at me like I awoke from the dead—which I guess I have. This whole night has awakened a part of me that was dead. As soon as I enter the bathroom, I throw the shower on hot, slightly lowering it so it’s practically boiling but still bearable. I strip my clothes off in record time and situate myself under the hot stream, careful not to get my hair wet.Ahh. It feels so good on my skin. That’s not why I'm here. Focus, Maddy. I quickly get to shaving all the essential parts, careful not to cut myself. Let’s just say they had received less attention than they deserved. I hear the door creak open—
“I thought you were about to be sick,” Leah calls out. I peek my head out of the shower curtain. She is sitting on top of the closed toilet seat. “I’m so sorry about Chase, Mad. I didn’t know thatfuckerwas like that,” she admits.
“It’sfine. I’m just glad Liam was there to help.” I sheepishly look down. “I actually feel better tonight than I have in a long time.” A smile creeps onto my face at the thought of what’s about to happen.
“What’s that look, Madison?” Leah stares me down. She always knows when something is up.I don’t have a great poker face.
“Did somethinghappenbetween you and Liam?” she pushes for the dirty details. I close the curtain to shield my guilty face and begin pouring body wash onto my loofa.
“No, it didn’t—thanks to yourperfecttiming, but even if it did, he’s leaving for a few months,” I sigh.Timing is such a bitch. “I asked him to come back tonight after his shift.” I drop the bomb she’s been waiting for. Bubbles gather on my body as I scrub quickly, knowing I am running out of time.
“You go babe. That man is going todeliver.I know it. Just look at him,” she swoons, clapping her hands. “Are you feeling any better?”
“Yes, much better. I think the two giant bottles of water and some sleep helped immensely,” I say over a mouthful of toothpaste.
I hear her walk out of the room. Knowing her, she’s off to go get some freaky shit like handcuffs or bondage to lend me.
A few moments later, I hear footsteps again. Except this time, they are louder than before anddefinitelynot Leah’s.
Fuck me.
My heart starts beating out of my chest with anticipation, knowing exactlywhothey belong to.
“She’s all yours,” Leah announces, shutting the door behind her. He chuckles softly.I am going to fucking kill her.
“Hey there, love,” Liam announces his presence, his alluring scent arousing my heightened senses.
