“We actually got distracted,” Luc states, and Elena interrupts him.
“What, you didn’t call me just to catch up?” she teases.
Luc frowns, “Hey, I call you just to catch up all the time.”
Elena chuckles, “I know I'm teasing you. What’s up?”
Unlike when we told the parents, Luc doesn’t bother keeping anything from her and tells her honestly, “Mom’s back in the country. The organization has no idea how, as they have got no record of her entering. It is looking like she is involved with Hunt, who we have been going after for a while now.”
“Fucking hell,” Elena replies, all joviality leaving her. “She always was a stupid bitch.”
I would be shocked at the way she talks about her mother but honestly, knowing what I do I think she is actually being far too kind in her words.
“Yeah, I know,” Luc replies. “I just needed to give you a heads up in case she’s stupid enough to try and contact you.”
“She wouldn’t dare,” Elena mutters, her voice icy.
“I love it when you use your sexy, I will kill you voice,” I hear Blaze yell in the background.
The guys and I laugh as she growls and then fills her guys in on what Luc just told her.
Dom comes on the phone, “We will let you know if we hear anything from her. Do you want us to keep an ear on anything to do with Hunt? I am assuming you mean Hunt as in the one that runs a good portion of the crime world and had ties with Atlas’s brother?”
I raise my eyebrow, of course they know who he is. We only go after the worst criminals and there is only one Hunt that is worth knowing about in the criminal world.
“Yeah, that’s the one,” Luc replies. “And actually, yeah, that would be a great help. Whatever you do though do not get involved, do not follow, do not investigate, and don’t actively search for anything to do with Hunt. He is really dangerous, and I don’t want you guys mixed up in it.”
“I promise, Luc, don’t worry,” Elena replies.
“Seriously,” I add, because the thought of something happening to any of them is absolutely terrifying.
“Ever, I promise that neither the guys nor I will do anything that will put us in danger. We know about Hunt; we know what he is capable of. All we are going to do is listen, just in case we hear something that could be helpful, since bikers love to gossip as much as old ladies.” Elena reassures me.
I chuckle, “Yeah, they really do.”
“Thanks guys,” Luc says, “we will let you know if any more information comes to light about Sandy.”
“Thanks. Stay safe, okay,” Elena replies; this time, it is her sounding extremely worried, “I know you guys are good at what you do, but he’s got connections, crazy fucking connections.”
“We know.” Luc replies and then adds, “Don’t worry, we have got this. We are just coming up to Headquarters, so we need to go. Love ya.”
“Love ya too,” she replies, and we all say goodbye.
“You didn’t tell her about the poisoning,” Peter says.
Luc shakes his head, “There’s no point. I'm fine now, and she is already worried about what could happen with us going after Hunt. I don’t want to add to it unnecessarily.”
“Good point,” Peter replies. Changing the subject, he then adds, “Could one of you text the guys back home and let them know that we should be back by morning at the latest so we can handle all of the animals tomorrow?”
“Oh, shit yeah,” I reply, as I pull out my phone and start messaging Levi to let him know we will be home soon and check in on Lyric.
He quickly replies that Lyric is fine and that he will see us all tomorrow.
The car falls silent as we get to headquarters and go through all of the security measures before we park the car and get out. I grab the evidence bag out of the cooler and then meet the guys around the front of the cars.
“We filled Elena in and got her to let us know if she hears anything about Hunt,” Luc is telling the others.
Trick frowns, “They know not to engage in any way, right?”
