Page 69 of Burning Truths

Stepping forward she steps back, hitting the wall behind her.

“Addington.” I spit.

The last name I use is a reminder of her disloyal choices. Everyone has something to answer for and hers is being a rat.

West grabs my shoulder, “Not here.” He says.

Looking over my shoulder at the sets of eyes on me I sigh.

“She’s coming with us.” I hook my thumb over my shoulder.

Oakley and Haven huddle around the island countertop pouring more drinks when someone’s phone starts to ring. G waves off his guys letting them know things are all clear leaving us with the core crew remaining.

“Slade?” Oakley says into her phone.

It must be the way she says his name that has Havoc and the new guy circling around her with questioning stares. Haven moves back to let them get closer to their woman but she doesn’t fully step out of the circle they’ve formed. Whatever the person on the other line says in response has her dropping her cup onto the counter spilling the clear liquid.

“Sav?” New guy says his tone low and gruff.

West pulls me behind him looking for a possible threat from all angles. Oakley looks at Havoc and the new guy with a haunted look before hanging up and grabbing Haven. Spinning towards West she looks past him at me for a long moment. My lungs scream at me from holding my breath with the tense air around us.

“You’ve got this?” She asks, but instead of asking West she’s aiming the question at me.

Licking my lips I nod my head once giving her the out she’s needing.

Moving around her men she drags a shocked Haven behind her as she rushes for the door. “We have our own little issue back home and we need to go now.”

Whatever’s going on with West and Haven has him jumping into action following them out the front door. His large hand grabs Haven yanking not only her to a stop but Oakley as well.Havoc whips around heading for West who now has Haven pressed against his chest.

“I don’t know what the fuck is going on but she’s not going anywhere.” He snaps.

Havoc and Oakley look at each other before coming towards us. Haven places her palm on his wide chest looking up at him with a soft look.

“I’ll be fine but if it’s bad we need to go now.” Her words are soft and low only meant for him.

He covers her hand with his own fierce look crossing his face. “I don’t think so, kitten.”

Sighing, Haven looks to me for, fuck if I know, but I just shrug and laugh. Oakley waves off her guys ordering them to go gather the bikes and car. Walking closer she looks over West and the way he vibrates with uncontrollable possessive energy. Pulling out a pocket knife the blue haired devil flicks it open and points it at West. Moving closer she pushes the side of the blade into his cheek.

“I’ll only give you one warning. Fuck with Haven and you’ll find yourself in pieces across all fifty states." Her threat settles between all of us but I don’t move to defend West.

I’m enjoying the way her knife digs into his skin. Oakley is doing what she thinks is right for her family blood or not. Who am I to stop her from doing what the brothers do for me? Raising an eyebrow I watch in amusement when he flinches from the pinch of pain. Haven looks between the two completely confused when Oakley breaks out a smile.

“Haven it’s your choice but I’m leaving now.” She says softer in tone.

The way she’s giving Haven the power to make her own choices has a lump forming in my throat that’s almost impossible to swallow around. Haven's bright eyes stare into West’s making me feel like I’m intruding on a personal moment.

“I’ve got to go, Playboy.” She says under her breath.

Releasing her hand West steps back letting her go completely. His expression changes, dropping down his easy going mask letting the tense moment pass with a laugh. Oakley grabs Haven's hand and tugs her towards the now waiting car. Haven looks back over her shoulder with sad eyes but West doesn’t give anything away. Placing my hand on his forearm I squeeze.

“Let’s get out of here.”

Oakley climbs on the back of a bike after shutting Haven in the passenger seat of a blue skyline race car. Turning away I spot G and Ally on the porch of the vacant house going back and forth but I don’t have enough energy to give a shit what it’s about. With a new target in sight I storm towards them with West on my heels. No one acknowledges the scene that just played out instead we all head to the blacked out SUV parked on the curb. Literally on the damn curb like fucking animals.

G walks us to the car but then steps out of the way to close the door behind Ally.

“I have a mess to clean up.” His eyes meet West in the driver seat.
