“Where thehellhave you been?”

I held up the jeweler’s bag. “Getting a ring.”

His jaw dropped. “An engagement ring?”

I patted his back, smiling. “We have alotto catch up on. But later. Why do you look so worried? Or mad?” I couldn’t tell which. He wasn’t calm and happy like usual, that was for sure.

“Because DuPont was just here!” He flung his arm out to gesture at the building. “He just left. Escorted off the premises, actually.”

“Whoa!” I gawked at him, not counting on that weasel to escalate to anything more than botheringme. “Why? What happened?”

“He came here,” John said as he ushered me inside with him, “demanding to speak with you. Andno oneknew where you were.”

I nodded. “I put my phone on silent while I focused on picking the rings.”

“Rings? More than one?” He scowled in confusion.

“Like I said, I’ll explain later.” Everything between Loren and me happened so fast, but I’d fill him in.

“Aaron was here, though, looking for you. He was absolutely livid, fuming and so pissed that we stole his client.”

I rolled my eyes as we stepped onto the elevator. I no longer had a reason to avoid them. I’d welcome all the memories of kissing Loren in one. Now, I could look ahead to more kisses and making more memories, naughty and nice. With one of the three rings in this bag, she would be mine.

“He’s been whining about our potentially getting Gammon. It’s bullshit. We’re not stealing anything from them. They’re shopping around on their own. It’s fair game.”

“No. There’s no ‘potentially’ about it. Gammon chose us. They sent over contracts this morning.”

I stared at him. “What?”

He nodded, smiling. “Aaron’s pissed that wedidacquire Gammon. They went with us.”

“Because of Loren and the team meeting with them yesterday? Holy shit!” I laughed, overwhelmed with joy. I was already proud of them and amazed with Loren’s ease of getting people to like her, but damn!

“Aaron’s bitching that our new employee cinched the deal by brown-nosing and kissing ass.”

I shook my head. “No, she didn’t. My fiancée just knows how to work hard for what she wants.” I lifted the bag with the ring boxes in it. “Including me.”

His jaw dropped as the elevator doors slid open. “Are you kidding me? You? And Loren?”

“Like I said…”

He laughed as I exited to go toward Loren’s office. “We have alotto catch up on,” he finished for me. “Go on. Get your girl. I can’t say I’ve ever seen you happier.”

He hadn’t. Because I’d never been so damn happy in my life.

A couple of knocks on Loren’s door alerted her to my presence. She turned around, sending her blonde waves flying over her shoulder. The second she saw it was me, she smiled.

“Did you hear?” she asked, hurrying toward me.

“Just did.” I reached back to close the door behind me as she lunged at me and kissed me hard.

Keeping my arm around her waist, I spun her with me as I locked the door, pushing her up against it.

I would be in trouble. Every day. Every second. Just knowing she was here and within reach, I’d be tempted to sneak in here and do just this.

Savoring the demand in her kiss, I sighed and let her eventually retreat for air.

“Congratulations,” I told her, pressing kisses down her jaw, and she smiled.
