"She's gone," I said, hearing my voice crack.
"Hold on, what do you mean she is gone, Owen."
I looked down the other side of the block and started to walk. I could feel my heartbeat in my throat, feeling the urge to vomit. It was my fault. I should have kept my damn mouth shut.
But if I hadn't said anything, she would have moved out. It was time I told her the truth. I should have just stopped her from leaving the apartment.
"We were fighting, and she left. I…”
I heard Ayden moving on the other end. "You need to be more specific, Owen. What do you mean she left? Did she go outside for a walk or…"
"I can't feel her," I said, trying once more to reach out to her. But there was nothing. It was like she had snipped the cord tethering us.
She wouldn't do that, would she? She would block me out or purposely go out of distance so I couldn't feel her anymore, would she?
"Owen, stay where you are. I'm on my way."
I ended the line and started to walk down the street further. I looked around a few shops and down the alleyways, but I didn't find her; I didn't see any sign of her.
I was back at the front of the building when Ayden pulled up in his truck. He hopped out and scanned the area.
"You didn't find her?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No, she's not here. I can't feel her. I know something is wrong."
Ayden nodded, agreeing with me.
"Okay, where would she go?"
I shrugged, not knowing. Ashley wasn't the type to just wander away. She would have come back, so I let her leave.
Whenever we fought in the cabins, she may have stormed off to another room or stormed off outside, but she always came back.
"Is there any place she would have gone to just cool off?" Ayden asked.
I shook my head, nothing coming to mind.
"Do we think this is her parents or Logan?" he asked.
I turned to him, feeling my stomach cramp. "Maybe."
"Logan hasn't been spotted in Honeyville, but he's been at her folk's house. This was a few days ago. I would know if Logan was in town today."
Then, her parents. But why would her parents just snatch her?
Just then, another vehicle pulled up, and I knew exactly who it was. Only Ashley's father was driving a black Bentley.
I felt hot with rage as he got out of his car and spotted Ayden and me. He didn't look good, though. He looked pale and out of sorts.
"Where is she?" I asked, knowing damn sure he had her.
He looked at Ayden, who narrowed his eyes to Harley.
"She's with Logan…"
"We will deal with the fact you went against my direct order later," Ayden growled. "But for now, you explain to us why the hell you gave her to him."
He swallowed, looking back at me. Harley shifted on his feet before he spoke again. "Addy is sick again….and we have no money. We’ve been draining out accounts to afford everything and since the business went under, we have no income. Logan made an offer”
