Fuck. What the hell am I going to do now? I can barely keep her off my mind when I picture her a thousand miles away from me. Now, she’s only feet away, and my body is screaming for me to grab her and kiss the living hell out of her, to dive in and lose myself in her all over again.

Rylann’s words ring in my ears.Sometimes, everyone needs a little push.

I think about how fate played a part in bringing her and my brother together the first time, and how it wouldn’t have happened again without the help of their best friends. Too bad it doesn’t work that way for everyone.

Emery lied to me. How can I ever trust her again?

“So, that’s her, huh?” Eli asks.

I nod, shaking myself out of my thoughts.

“Small world.” Cameron whistles, shaking his head, no doubt as shocked as I am.

“You can say that again,” I grumble. I still can’t believe she works with Rylann and Scarlett.

“You should talk to her.”

I shake my head as Cameron sips his water. He doesn’t drink much during the season, and since his team is looking to get into the playoffs, I’m not surprised he’s already made the switch.

“Why not? It doesn’t seem like you two had a clean break.”

Because we didn’t.Our break was anything but clean. A messy fucking disaster is what it was.

Following Cam’s lead, I grab a water bottle and chug. That last shot was a mistake. I need to keep my wits about me, or I might do something stupid, like scoop her up in my arms and take her to my hotel room.

For the next hour, I watch her. I couldn’t rip my eyes away from Emery if I tried. She’s heart-stopping beautiful as she dances and laughs while nursing her favorite drink.

My eyes follow her as she slips away to the bathroom.

This is it. I need to talk to her. I need to know if she didn’t know Jace was my brother. My gut says she didn’t, but my brain says she can’t be trusted. That she’s a liar.

I stand, but a hand grips my wrist.

Eli pulls me back. “Be cool, Mase. Don’t cause a scene.”

“What makes you think I’m going to cause a scene?” I scoff, ripping my hand away.

“Only the angry glares you’ve been shooting at her all night. Take it down a notch, man.”

I ignore his warning and march my way to the bathroom, following her down the dark hallway. Leaning against the wall, I cross my arms and wait for Emery to step out of the restroom.

The door flies open and I move, blocking her way.

“Are you avoiding me, baby doll?”

Emery flinches at the endearment that slipped off my tongue with ease. “I’m not avoiding you. I was invited to hang out withthe girls. Which is what I’m doing. It’s a bachelorette party, after all.”

“Did you know?”

“Know what?” she asks.

“That you work with my sister-in-law.”

“No.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

The double meaning of my jab lands hard and her face pales as her eyes glass over.
