Page 134 of Rest In Pieces

I park my bike next to Havoc’s and climb off, leaving my helmet on my seat. I look around for Amity but don’t see her or the RV, meaning I beat her here. I planned on talking this out with her first, but since she’s not here, I stomp toward Monica’s trailer, only to get stopped by Havoc.

“Storming in there won’t get you anywhere.”

“The fuck it won’t! That shit she posted was just to hurt Amity. Who the fuck sneaks in while someone’s sleeping, takes a selfie with them, and then shares it on social media for the world to see?”

“I didn’t say you can’t be pissed. I’m saying to keep it in check. The lawyers the studio’s got on retainer will make a fucking example out of you. They’ll paint her as the victim and you as the aggressor. And as much as I hate to admit it, with that cut on your back and me being an ex-con as your president, there’s already a bias against you.”

I drop my head and take a few deep breaths. I’m still pissed, but he’s right. She had us all fooled because she’s an actress—and a damn good one. None of us suspected that this was all a lie, though Amity had been suspicious of her motives.

“I’m good now.”

“I’m coming with you anyway. I don’t trust her not to start saying you attacked her or something.”

I nod, and we make our way to her trailer. I don’t bother knocking; I just open the door and walk inside, finding Monica sitting at the table with her phone in her hand. She jumps up when she sees me, leaving her phone on the table. I nod to Havoc to grab it. I want to see exactly what she has on there.

“Genesis. I wasn’t expecting you for a little while. Is everything okay?”

“Are you fucking serious right now?” I snarl at her, and she backs up. I storm toward her, remembering Havoc’s words and stopping short of touching her. “You posted shit on social media, implying we fucked!”

“I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to post it,” she says, her eyes darting to Havoc. “I know we had to keep it a secret because of my stalker, but I was just so tired of hiding it.”

I stare at the twisted bitch and imagine my hands around her throat, squeezing the life out of her.

“There’s never been and never will be anything between us. You need fucking help, lady, and I want no part in this. You’ll take that post down and issue an apology, saying it was a joke made in poor taste.”

“Of course. I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad at me anymore. I’ll make it up to you,” she purrs, reaching for me.

I take a step back. “Stay the fuck away from me. I quit. You broke the terms of the agreement when you posted that photo of me. Payment is due in full, or Raven Souls will sue you for breach of contract.”

“But, Genesis, you can’t leave me. I love you, and I need you. The stalker will hurt me if you abandon me.”

“Abandon you? You were just a job, nothing more. And after getting the last note analyzed, I’m not even convinced you have a stalker.”

“How can you say that? The tires. The blood?—”

“Was period blood,” I finish and watch the color drain from her face.

“Want me to check her bathroom and see if she’s on her rag?” Havoc asks casually.

“You will not go in there!” Monica screeches, trying to block the way.

Havoc chuckles. “I think you got your answer.” He baited her. Nice.

“You can’t prove anything,” she snaps.

“Bitch, I don’t need to prove shit. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“But that’s not what Amity thinks now, is it? Poor little Amity,” she says mockingly. “She’s the discount store version of me—always in the background, never the star. She’s replaceable, and I’m not. She forgot her fucking place, so I was just reminding her. I can have anything and everything I want, including you.” Her eyes look wild, and her smile manic.

“You’ll never have me. I don’t stick my dick in crazy.”

She laughs loudly. “But Amity doesn’t know that, does she? And the whole world thinks you’re mine. If they think she took you from me, they’ll crucify her. Who do you think they’re going to believe—America’s sweetheart or a biker thug in a gang?”

“It’s a fucking club, bitch.”

We all turn at the sound of Amity’s voice. She managed to walk in here without any of us hearing her, and I get why everyone calls her Spook.

“I’m sorry you had to find out this way.” Monica turns on the waterworks.
