Amity rolls her eyes. I step toward her, but she backs up. The move feels like a kick to the stomach.
“You’re so full of shit, your breath reeks of it.”
When Monica opens her mouth, Amity holds up her hand to stop her. “After I finish shooting my scene today, I’m done. Unlike yours, my contract is per movie, not for the whole series. So you’ll have to find someone else to put up with your shit.”
Monica laughs. “Oh dear, how will I cope?” she mocks.
Amity shrugs. “I don’t really give a shit what you think. But just remember, it’s Stefan and the studio that wanted me. Unlike you, people like working with me. You, on the other hand, have earned yourself a few choice names, which I won’t repeat because I’m a fucking lady.” She turns to look at me, her expression unreadable.
“Amity, none of?—”
“Let’s talk outside. She’s not worth any more of my time.”
As she turns to leave, Monica starts yelling, calling Amity a stupid bitch and saying she fucked me six ways from Sunday this morning.
Amity stops and looks over her shoulder at Monica. “That’s funny, because I swear it was G who fucked a gallon of cum into me this morning.” She walks out as Havoc starts laughing.
Monica rushes forward, but Havoc stops her. “Lady, I’ve already been to prison once, and I have zero problems going back. You should also know that I recorded everything you just said, so unless you want me to post it on social media like you did, you’ll back the fuck up.”
I ignore the rest and follow Amity outside. She’s sitting at the nearest picnic table, waiting for me to join her. Taking a deep breath, I walk over and sit down.
“There was a moment when I first saw that picture that I actually thought you were guilty,” she begins. “You didn’t come home until late, and she’s every man’s wet dream, and she wants you bad. My brain just shut down, and all logic went out the window. I was just so fucking hurt and angry.”
I move closer. “Amity—” I start, but she continues talking.
“I was halfway here before I started to think clearly, and it hit me. Sure, she might be everyone’s wet dream, but she’s not yours. I am. You never hid how you felt about me. In fact, it was you that did all the chasing. So why would you bother with all that if she was just giving it away for free?” She shakes her head.
“I know you. I trust you. More than I thought I would.” She wraps her arms around herself, turning her head to look at me. “I love you, G, and the man I love wouldn’t do that to me. Not in a million years. I pulled over and checked the photo again. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, but I knew there had to be something there to prove my trust in you was valid.”
“It was. It is.”
“I know. The picture was taken in my RV.”
I jolt at that. I never thought about the where, just the why.
“I recognized the bedding. You crashed in the RV when we came back after the accident. You pulled your stitches and got blood on the sheets, and since I have more bedding than I need, I just threw them away. It would have been impossible for you to cheat on me last night in the bed I was sleeping in, on sheets that were thrown out already. Besides, you wouldn’t do that to me. You wouldn’t bring her into my bed and taint my home. I know some men wouldn’t think twice, but not you.”
I reach for her, but she pulls away.
“I know you’re innocent. But all I can see is that photo of you and her. It’s playing on a loop in my head, along with all the comments. So if you touch me, I’ll break, and I can’t break right now, G. I have to focus on this scene. I’ve got to keep it together to keep myself safe. I’m not breaking up with you, and I’m not leaving town. I’m just asking for you to give me some space for the rest of the day.”
As much as I hate it, I can’t deny her this. “Whatever you need, baby.”
A tear slips down her cheek, and I fist my hands to stop myself from wiping it away.
“I lo—” She covers my mouth with her fingers.
“No. Not now. Not like this. That’s ours, and I don’t want it tarnished by what happened today.”
She moves her hand to cup my cheek, and I lean into her touch, hearing her sigh before she pulls away. “Go home.”
“I’m staying. I want to be here if you need me. I’ll hide out in the RV.”
She nods, her eyes slipping closed.
I give in and press a kiss to her forehead. “Be careful.”
“Always. Later, G.”
