“Are you sure?” Jatix asked as they backed away from his bloody, unconscious body.

“Yes, I don’t want you to get locked up for murder,” I said.

I walked over to my dad, and I was no longer trembling in his presence. I laid my hand on his chest- his heart still beating.

He had empty beer bottles around him. I was surprised because he usually reserved his drinking at night. His jeans had splatters of cheese sauce from the nachos he had discarded on the small coffee table. I patted his pockets and pulled his wallet out. Opening it, I grabbed my debit card. He didn’t need that anymore.

“Shit, he takes your money?” exclaimed Jatix. “I would kick the shit out of him again, but that would kill his sorry ass.”

“Yes, he did,” I said, grabbing the card tightly in my hand. It was probably empty.

Silus gently held my forearm as we walked back to his car. I didn’t even realize Shawn had left the backseat to follow us. Silus began to drive away from the house when we all settled into the car. I looked back at my old home, wondering how it all came down to this.

My dad had brought it upon himself.

“How do you feel?” Silus asked.

“Like a weight’s been lifted, honestly,” I replied. “I didn’t think he had that much power over me until I saw him on the ground today. I could do whatever I want now.”

“That’s amazing,” said Shawn. “Youshouldbe able to do whatever you want.”

“Should we listen to some music?” I suggested. I wanted to forget this had happened already. I suddenly felt like a bad daughter since I had sought his approval my whole life. It was my fault Mom died, and now my dad was lying unconscious in his own home. If I thought too hard about it, I would go into a deep depression.

“Fine by me,” said Silus, turning on a soundtrack. Loud rock music played, and I rolled down the window, shaking my head wildly. Shawn was also dancing in the back to the beat, the carshaking with our movements. I felt so much freer and lighter than I’ve ever had.

“Let’s do something tonight,” said Shawn.

“Ocean?” I suggested.

“Skinny-dipping,” said Silus, and I laughed.

“Let’s do it,” I said, not caring about anything anymore. I would go to all the dances and balls in the world now. I would visit friends anytime. And it was time to find a new job and keep my money to myself.

“What the hell are they doing?” I said out loud.

Keera, Shawn, and Silus were swimming in the ocean, lit by the orange sunset. They were naked and splashing water everywhere. Shawn’s belly was jiggling, and Keera’s laughter could be heard from afar. She was starting to assimilate well into my pack.

“She’s celebrating,” said Darius matter-of-factly as he sat in the passenger side, also staring at the wild party on the ocean side. I parked the car up the driveway and could still hear the screaming and shouting below us.

“Good. At least she doesn’t hate us,” I said, relieved.

“But next time, we need to control our impulses more. Keera has every right to run away from us.”

“Hell no,” I said. “Her father committed a crime and should be locked up. I’ll talk to her tonight if she wants to do that and go through with bringing him to justice.”

“She has to,” said Darius.

“Let’s go frolic in the water with them,” I said, knowing damn well Darius would never do that.

As I walked to meet them, I couldn’t help but stare at our omega in admiration. She was stronger than I thought she was. Water dripped off her hard pink nipples as the water receded, showing off her nude body.

Fuck, not again.

My cock had a mind of its own as it hardened.
