“Lyra, I wanted to thank you for your patience and commitment to me,” he started. I smiled, completely taken off guard by him. “But something was missing at our wedding. Do you remember what that was?”
I thought for a moment.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said.
Kodan dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring from his pocket. It was a simple iron ring that had the shape of a tiny heart molded on top of it.
I held a hand to my mouth in shock. He actually remembered to get me a ring to the best of his ability.
“It was a rushed wedding, so I didn’t have time to get a ring,” he said. I got up and soundlessly hugged him as tears fell from my eyes. I couldn’t believe it. He chuckled, a deep rumble in his chest showing his mirth and affection for me. “Let me put it on you.”
I released him and stuck my hand out as he slowly rolled it over my finger.
“It’s so cute,” I said, looking at the tiny ring. It didn’t matter how expensive this ring was. I just knew it came completely from his heart. “I love you, Kodan.”
“I love you too, little princess,” he said, kissing the ring on my hand while still kneeling before me. “Don’t worry, I’ll get you a more expensive one back in the city.”
Then he stood up and pushed my hair back from my face.
His lips pressed over mine, and my eyes closed as we kissed to the sounds of the ocean crashing against the rocks and the seagulls screaming in the wind. It was the perfect storm.
As my body melted into his kiss, I realized then I never wanted to part with any of them.
I had found my perfect pack, however imperfect we may be.
