After taking a shower at the hospital, I slowly pulled on a clean pair of underwear and a bra that my mom had brought for me yesterday.
I did my hair in the bathroom, enjoying my alone time away from their intense gazes. Seth and Luke waited for me in the room, and Kodan had left early to procure transportation for us. Somehow, being in the room with an alpha and two sigmas made the heat worse. My body would crave their touch and affection, with the end goal of their knots inside me.
I twisted my hair into one long French braid, careful not to touch the bandages on my neck. Voss had not only bitten me; he’d ravaged my neck. I was scared to see the damage he’d done to me. It was still painful, but the pain medicine was helping me through it.
Walking back into the room, I noticed Luke standing at the window, looking out at the street. Seth wasn’t in the room. We were in a high-rise building overlooking the island's beautiful view. His gaze automatically fixated on me as I entered the room, and my face heated. I only wore my bra and underwear. I grabbed the dress that was hanging next to my hospital bed. It was a light summer blue dress that my mom also brought. As I put it on, I was grateful it was thin and not too heavy on my heated skin.
“I can help you,” said Luke, zipping up my dress from the back. His warm fingers paused on my shoulders, and he kissed my cheek while he stood behind me. His nearness and scent nearly made me go crazy with lust. Instead, I took a few deep breaths and relaxed against him, reaching up to grasp his fingers in mine.
“I’m sorry about the other day,” I said, talking about the morning after we took a shower together.
“Don’t worry about that,” said Luke. “I forgot already, and I shouldn’t have pushed you like that with my questions.”
“We’re going to start a whole new life,” I said. “With two sigmas.”
“They’re not all that bad,” said Luke. “I was raised close-mindedly like the rest of the island, viewing sigmas as outcasts. But Kodan is more alpha than three alphas put together, and I respect him for that. He cares deeply about you.”
He was right.
Every day, I felt the connection between me and Kodan deepening.
“He said he loved me,” I blurted out. I turned around and saw that those words didn’t sit well with Luke. Damn it, I should have kept that to myself. Sometimes, I saw Luke as a friend and still confided in him. But I had to remember that he was my husband, too.
“That’s good,” he finally said. Then he met my eyes. “I’ve always loved you, too. You know that, right?”
I was taken by surprise. “I love you too, Luke.”
The door opened, and Seth poked his head into the room. “Are you ready, Princess Lyra? Kodan is ready with the car out front.”
“I am, but you can call me Lyra,” I said. His face twisted into a sly smile.
“Good to know we’re getting closer, then,” he commented, and my face heated. “I’m not just an acquaintance anymore.”
“You’re getting there,” I giggled.
“Wow,you actually got us a normal car,” I exclaimed, sitting in the backseat of the air-conditioned car between Kodan and Seth. Luke had volunteered to drive. It felt way nicer sitting here than in the back of a truck. As we pulled out from the hospital,Kodan rested his hand on my left knee. There was a crowd of people waiting outside, cheering upon seeing us. “What are they doing?”
“They’re cheering for you, baby,” said Kodan. “If you hadn’t noticed, they are the Wild Wolfmen. They’ve been slowly moving back onto the mainland of Howl’s Edge.”
I saw reporters taking pictures of the car and trying to peek inside.
“Great, the reporters won’t be shy about following us now,” said Luke. “Seth, are you able to shift between forms? Could you quickly shift into the Shadow Wolf and give them a quick roar?”
“Unfortunately, I can’t,” Seth laughed. “As much as I tried, I couldn’t shift back into wolf form. It was miserable anyway.”
“Would be great to put it to use and scare off these people,” grumbled Kodan, gripping my knee tighter. His touch sent a wave of desire ignite through me. The ache down there worsened as I sat between Kodan and his brother. I gripped both of their thighs, pulling them closer to me.
“The heat is getting worse,” I said, even though I was in the direct line of the air conditioner. “I need relief.”
“Just hold on for a while longer, little princess,” said Kodan, trying to purr into my ear and calm me.
“If there were enough room in the car, I would have knotted you by now,” said Seth matter-of-factly. Clenching my thighs together, I couldn’t help but produce more slick as my mind raced with what we would do when we reached home.

Later that night, we finally arrived at the stone tower.
