“Anyway, I think you need to go and talk to those two,” Daisy went on. “This needs to be sorted, and I know that you three need to talk. None of you are competing this morning, are you?”

“No, we’re going in after an early lunch.”

“Best talk to them now, otherwise there’s going to be some awkwardness. I’m sure they’re waiting for you so you can chat about it.”

“What if it goes wrong?”

Daisy laughed.

“Callie, you’ve just had hot sex with two guys. I have a feeling things are going to go very right for you this weekend. Especially after what happened with Drew.”

“That bastard!”

“Deal with him when you get home. Today is all about you, Ben and Matt. And you’re going to enjoy the results more than that medal you’re guaranteed to get.”

At least Daisy was optimistic. Callie now felt like a bag of nerves.

It didn’t take longto use the bathroom and get dressed. As Callie dragged a brush through her hair, she wondered how this was going to go. She kept trying to figure out a speech in her head, but it didn’t seem to want to stick without sounding like an idiot.

Hopefully, Ben and Matt would be more eloquent than her. Callie knew she was going to be tripping over her words. This was not going to be an easy conversation.

What’s easier to handle? Your conversation with them or your argument with Drew when you get back? He lied to you and tried to leave the kids alone.

Mum will scold him for me. He’ll be too scared to do it again.

If he was having a date, Callie wouldn’t have cared. If he just organised childcare in the meantime, it wouldn’t have been a problem. Or he could have rescheduled it. The kids were the priority. But he had done that instead. Callie hoped that her mum gave him the rough side of her tongue.

Now he wasn’t important. The kids were safe and well. Callie just needed to focus on herself.

She had two men in the house she needed to face.

Checking herself one more time in the mirror, Callie went downstairs. Ben and Matt were in the dining room, talking as they ate their breakfast. Both of them looked up as Callie entered the room. The tension simmered in the room, and it made Callie want to run out of the room again. She managed a smile.

“Hi.”

“You sleep okay?” Matt asked.

“Yeah, I did.”

Matt glanced at Ben with a slight smile.

“At least we managed to do something right.”

“I think we’ve got something else to discuss, though, Matt.”

Ben got up and walked towards Callie. He was wearing jeans and a red t-shirt, both of which fit his body just right. She wanted to reach out and run her hands over him, but she stopped herself. Not a good time.

Ben gave her a smile as he cupped her head in his hands and kissed her, a soft press of lips, but it was enough for Callie to swoon. She gripped his wrists, unsure whether to push him away or pull him closer.

“No regrets about last night?” Ben asked.

It took a moment for Callie to realise he had stopped kissing her. She opened her eyes and saw that Ben was looking at her. She bit her lip.

“I don’t regret last night,” she said.

“But you’re worrying about it now, aren’t you?”

“Am I that obvious?”
