“Goddess, Taryn, you’re driving me crazy,” he says, gasping. “Let’s go again.”

I laugh harder and shake my head, even as I feel his dick already hardening again inside me. “We should probably get covered up,” I say, my fingers trailing along his jaw. “We are in the hospital, after all. Someone could walk in here at any minute.”

“They won’t,” he says, kissing me. “I mindlinked Wesley and told him to tell everyone to stay the fuck away.”

He squeezes my breasts and pinches my nipples, and I moan, biting my lip. “Still…”

He sighs and drops his forehead to my chest, then slides out of me, rolling onto his side and pulling me against his warm, muscular body. “Fine,” he says, but I can feel his reluctance.

I rub his chest and kiss it, snuggling further into him. “When we’re out of here, we can go as many times as you want, okay?”

“Promise?” he asks, looking down at me where I lay in the circle of his arms.

“Pinky promise,” I say, lifting my hand in between us.

His lips break into a smile, and he leans down to kiss me, slow and deep and lingering. “Goddess, I love you.”

“I love you too, Reid.”

He settles back against the pillows, neither of us moving to dress even though we agreed we should. His powerful arms are safe and soothing, filling me with warmth and love, strengthened by the solidified bond between us. My eyes close, and I breathe in and out, enjoying the comfort and security he brings me.

But a mindlink interrupts our blissful reverie, yanking us back to reality and the present. Reid frowns and his eyes glaze over and Dr. Russo’s voice fills my mind as well as he speaks to both of us at once.

“I apologize for the interruption,”he says,“but Reid’s dad is awake, and he wishes to speak to you. Both of you.”

Chapter 47

REID

Isitontheedge of the hospital mattress, holding the images of my Sour Patch in my hand, staring at them with a smile as Taryn finishes changing into the clothes Maddie brought to the hospital for her.

“What are you smiling at?” she asks, climbing onto the bed next to me.

“Sour Patch,” I say, holding the strip of ultrasound pictures out to her.

“Really? That’s what you’re going with? Sour Patch?”

“Don’t you think that’s what she looks like?” I ask, peering over the top of the strip as she examines them. “Like a little Sour Patch Kid gummy?”

“I thought she looked like a gummy bear the other day when they first showed her to me,” she says, chuckling.

“Nah, she’s totally a Sour Patch Kid,” I say, shaking my head at her. “See, she already has that little cheeky smirk.” I point at the image, at what I assume is the pup’s head, although I really have no clue what is the top and what is the bottom on the black-and-white picture.

“Reid, I’m eight weeks pregnant. She’s the size of a raspberry, maybe a little bigger. You can’t even see her smile yet.”

“Oh, I may not be able to see it, but I know it’s there. You’re her mother, after all. She’s bound to be trouble.”

Her jaw drops open and her head snaps up. Her dark eyes twinkle even as she glares at me, shoving my shoulder. “You’re one to talk!”

“I didn’t say I wasn’t,” I shrug. “Just pointing out that there’s a reason the Goddess paired us together.”

She shakes her head and leans forward, kissing my cheek as she puts the ultrasound images into her pocket. I pull her into my lap, her knees settling on either side of my hips, her forehead resting against mine as our eyes close. Everything falls away like it always does when it’s just us, just her in my arms, and the urge to stay like this and avoid responsibility and the real world consumes me, making me hold her tighter.

“Are you ready?” she asks, her arms draping around my neck, her question popping my little bubble.

“No.”

“I’ll be with you the whole time.”
