Mama Gia spewed red wine all over Jon’s white shirt.

“Damn. This shirt is new.” Jon must have realized he made a mistake and said, “Sorry. That’s probably a shock. I wasn’t always gay. I might have experimented once in high school—”

Suzy stood frozen with the two glasses of wine glued to her hands. So, they didn’t tell her.

Fernando put his hand atop Jon’s. “Not only did my fiancé experiment, he and Vanessa got pregnant at their prom—and now she’s, well, you can see for yourself.” He stopped, apparently in an effort to let the news sink in.

Mama Gia’s eyes widened as she stared from Fernando to Jon to Vanessa’s big belly. “Wait. You-You’re pregnant by my son’s fiancé?”

Fernando hooted. “Bingo, Mama. Isn’t this exciting? Vanessa’s having a—”

Jon put both hands in the air as if he were being arrested. “Why don’t we slow this train down? No need to overshare. Give your mom time to process.”

“Nonsense.” Fernando sipped his wine. “We’re all one big happy family—or will be soon. We like to call ourselves the modern Brady Bunch.”

Draining her wineglass, Mama Gia stared daggers at her son. “You didn’t think your mama would want to know about this before your wedding?”
