“Someone wants to hurt Delilah.”

“Talk to me.”

He explained about the attack and injuries, then told Z about the call from her stepfather.

“How can I help?”

“Delilah’s mother lives in Harmony, Tennessee. For reasons I’d rather not go into, Delilah can’t stay in her mother’s house. There’s a hotel in town, The Lennox. See if there’s a suite available. Trent insists on sending one of my teammates with me.”

“Not surprising. Your focus will be on Delilah.”

“Yeah, I know. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.” He wanted to keep watch over Delilah and keep her safe himself.

“Understood. I’ll take care of the reservations. You need an encrypted cell phone for your lady?”

“I do.”

“I’ll overnight one to the hotel. Check at the front desk tomorrow morning.”

“Will do.”

“Anything else I can do?”

“Run a background check on Randy and Michelle Holloway. Delilah also mentioned a brother and some cousins. I want to know what I’m walking into.”

“I’ll see what I can find out.” Zane ended the call.

Matt slid his phone into his pocket as the door opened behind him. He glanced over his shoulder. “All packed?”

A shrug. “Not much to pack since most of my clothes are at my house.”

“If you need something specific, I’m sure Stella wouldn’t mind bringing it to you.” If her mother was as gravely ill as Randy insinuated, she might need clothes to attend a funeral.

Delilah shook her head. “My stepfather exaggerates. I won’t know what to believe until I see Mom and talk to her doctor.”

Matt didn’t press the point. He would take her shopping if she needed something more.

“We can go now.”

“I’m under orders to wait for a teammate to arrive. Trent doesn’t want us in Harmony without backup.”

She frowned. “But the danger is here. The break-in had nothing to do with Harmony.”

“Trouble might follow us. Shouldn’t be long before we leave. You can pack snacks and bottles of water for the trip while I load our bags into the SUV.”

Fifteen minutes later, Matt’s doorbell rang. He opened the door to Cade and Sasha. He grinned. “You’re my backup?”

“Trent asked if we wanted the assignment. We jumped at the chance to tag along.”

Matt bent down and kissed Sasha’s cheek. “Thanks for coming. Delilah will appreciate having another woman around.”

She laughed. “The testosterone is high when Bravo is together. Besides, Delilah is a friend. I’m happy to be another voice of reason.”

“You accusing us of not being reasonable, Sassy?” Cade’s eyes twinkled.

“When Bravo is together, it’s a tossup who is more alpha, you or one of your teammates.”

Matt whistled. “Ouch, man. She has your number.”
