The fuck was going on?
“Brody? What is this?” Mayne yelled over the sudden wind.
“I don’t know, but it ain’t natural! If someone is trying to fuck with Ani, I swear I’ll tear the fucker’s throat out!”
“What is the matter?” Callan raced toward them, followed by his Omega.
“I am going to have the Kodiak Island Triad bring everyone back to the Pack house,” the Liger informed them and went to tell Misha and Ross to secure Sage, Ginger, and Mark. It was better for them to be safe in the house out of the threat of a South Texas storm.
“Something about this wind, Callan. It is not natural,” Brody said. He inhaled a breath and felt his Wolf snarl angrily in return. The air was thick with magic. Not the good kind.
“It’s her! Ashley White. She is the Dark Witch who infiltrated the Coven Realta, our allies. Her own coven,Viridi Lux, is as foul as she is! I will find her and put a stop to this spell she is casting.”
“I can’t ask you to do that, Alpha.”
“You aren’t. Ashley threatened our mate and must be dealt with,” Callan growled over the howling wind.
In the blink of an eye, the man switched shapes to reveal an enormous Dragon. He flapped his wings and rose in the air, battling the wind and sudden rain. Brody turned. He felt Ani’s pain and winced.
“She’s hurt, Mayne. I must find her!”
“I will go! You are needed here,” Mayne pointed at the Wolves cowering beneath the stands as unnatural bursts of purple and green lightning shot from the skies.
“No—”
Yes. He is right. Stay and watch the Pack. You too, Mayne. I am fine. Just a nail biting me in the butt!
Ani’s voice penetrated his mind, and from the look on Mayne’s face, his as well. Brody choked out a laugh.
Wait.
Did she say a nail was biting into her butt?
Don’t laugh. It hurts,she chided.
We will kiss it better later. Are you close?
I’m close, but Megan is in trouble. You may want to send your Wolves to get her. She’s stuck in a well that flooded with last week’s rain just below the surface. When this storm began, it turned that little valley on the map into a swimming pool. I have her cows, but she’s clinging to a tree in the middle of it all.
I’m on it.Mayne grabbed his cell and called Thomas. Brody had forgotten that Megan couldn’t swim. She had an irrational fear of water since her childhood. Served her right for trying this bullshit challenge to begin with.
But none of that mattered now. His little minx was okay, and he wanted her back in his arms, safe and sound.
Right.
Fucking.
Now.
“Alright, already, sheesh,” Ani hollered over the wind.
She was sitting on her horse with a tiny newborn calf across her lap. Brody ran to her, ignoring the rain and the mud as he took the animal from her and handed it to whoever was nearby. Landry, he thought.
Then he and Mayne were both pulling her down, lifting her carefully so as not to hurt her further. Mayne wrapped her up in his arms from behind and Brody from the front. The sudden storm subsided, but he didn’t notice. Nor did he pay any heed to the one hundred head of cattle that surrounded the tank under the warm rays of sun that filtered through the quickly departing clouds.
“She did it!”someone yelled. And that was followed by numerous accolades and whoops of congratulations. All the while, Brody and Mayne held her between them.
Neither Alpha nor Omega had eyes for anything other than Ani. Sweet, beautiful, smart, brave Ani.
