“You trusted me,” she said, grinning up at both of her mates.
“We do. Always.”
“Noooooo!” The scream sounded behind them, and the Triad turned to see Sam Greeves and a half-dozen Wolves bearing down on them.
“You weaken us with your perverted ways! How dare you seek to rule a Pack of your betters! Even your bitch mother refuses to speak to you!” Sam raged.
But before the crazed bastard could utter another word, the Dragon was back and in his claws was the wasted away remains of what Brody assumed was Ashley White.
“Yes,” Landry confirmed. “It was Blood Magic that kept her young. She traded her soul for smooth skin, poor wretch.”
“I found her close by,” Callan said, rejoining them in the flesh. He pulled on his pants and shook his head. “She was already almost spent, then she tried to cast a spell on me, overextending herself further. She died before the last word was uttered.”
“You killed the Witch? No matter. I will still get the better of you, pup,” Sam yelled, but the Wolves beside him looked uncertain. In fact, they looked downright scared.
“Sam, you lost. Your Witch is dead. The challenge is finished. Ani is the winner. She not only brought her herd to the tanks, but Megan’s as well. As for your harsh words, old man, I suggest you reconsider. Confess your crimes and I will have you humanely jailed until your trial.”
“Why should I consider that? You’re nothing but a bastard, Brody DeAngelo. Born of tainted blood, your filth must be cleansed from this Pack.”
Sam’s grin was mad. A crazed thing, his aura appeared to ooze green. That was very strange, Brody had never seen an aura before. Not even through his link with Mayne.
“It’s not me. It’s Ani. Love? You can see everyone like this?”
Ani nodded, looking at Brody, then Mayne. “I can. I just thought it was you guys.”
“It’s not. Who else has a green aura?” Mayne asked, and Ani pointed to the Wolves with Sam and then to Megan.
“I will take this Pack from you like I took your mother, you undeserving whelp,” Sam roared.
Tearing at his clothes, he started to shift. The man was once strong as an ox, but time and abusing magic had done him no favors. Still, Brody’s hatred of him ran deep. He looked at his mother, standing on the edge of the crowd. She looked so thin and frail. Not at all how he remembered her.
“You can try to take my Pack, Sam Greeves. You can certainly try,” Brody snarled.
His shift came much faster. The old man was still only half done by the time Brody had him pinned, his neck in the Alpha Wolf’s mouth.
“Stay here with Landry. He will protect you,” Mayne told Ani before he swapped skin for fur.
Brody growled, pressing harder still while the huge Black Bear swatted down the smaller Wolves, growling furiously should any even think of standing back up. Thomas and the rest of the Guard came running, Megan in tow. They’d secured the sniveling she-Wolf with cuffs and went to round up the others. Just as Brody released Sam, the older Wolf shifted to human, pulling a knife from his pants, he thrust it into Brody’s side.
Pain exploded in his body, there was something wrong with the knife. But before he could think about it, his Wolf had Sam’s throat in his jaws once more. This time he was not as merciful. With a loud crunching of bones, muscle, and sinew, Brody tore the fucker’s throat out. And much as his Wolf would like to chow down on the evil fuck, he forced the animal to spit it out.
“Brody!” Ani screamed, just before the world went dark.

Hours later…
“Don’t you ever do that to me again!” Ani’s shrill voice was music to his sensitive ears as the sexy blonde bombshell hurled herself into his arms.
“Nice to see you awake,” his Omega grinned from the other side of the bed where he was standing with his hands on his hips.
“Sam? Megan?” Brody asked.
“Everyone still alive has been round up and is in irons. The tribunal will commence as soon as the Guardians send a judge.”
“Good.”
“Good? Is that all you have to say? You scared me to death!” Ani slapped Brody across his naked chest, and he winced at the pain and worry he’d caused her.
