Chapter 10

Javier nursed his cup of coffee and waited for Gerri to join him in the sitting room of her apartment. She’d returned back to the city last night, as had he. Though he was certain that she had at least gotten some sleep, whereas all he did was roam the cold streets alone.

According to her specific instructions, Javier had checked out of his hotel and had alerted his storage company to get all his belongings packed and ready at a moment’s notice. That was certainly one of the benefits of being wealthy, but he had no intentions of tucking tail and running away.

He hated to argue with his aunt, but there was no way he could abandon the states now. He had nowhere else to go. His mate was his one and final destination.

“There, that is better. You know, osito, you got here an hour before the agreed upon time, but no worries, I am ready,” Gerri entered the room in a smart wool coat with a red scarf around her throat.

She looked expensive and tasteful as always and he smiled back at her, as much as he could at any rate. Truth was, his Bear was hurting too much to feel anything other than pain. The animal was positively desperate to hunt his mate. She belonged with him. Didn’t she see that?

Dammit. How had he fucked up so completely? He didn’t even know her name until Gerri had told him. He’d behaved like an animal and he was deeply ashamed of himself. He should’ve treated her gently. Gotten to know her better first. Well, the least he should’ve done was ask her name before he sunk so deep inside of her sweet heat he couldn’t tell where he ended and she started.

Of course, now that he’d had her, he wanted her even more. All the time, in fact. And it was only going to get worse. She was his soulmate, his other half, the only woman in the world who spoke to him and his Bear.

“Javi, focus. Hank, my driver, is here,” she snapped her fingers in his face and he followed her like the lovesick fool he was.

“Aunt Gerri, please,” he wiped a hand over his face and ignored the honking cars and sound of the engine humming as they pulled onto the highway, “I have to get her back. Tell me how.”

“Javier, I love you dearly, but you know it isn’t polite to stick your dick in a woman before you explain a few things first.”

“Ugh, Gerri,” he moaned.

“What? You have a dick, and you stuck it in her, bit her neck, and expected her to jump for joy. Did you ever think she had a reason for saying no, first?”

“What do you mean?”

“Not everyone has had your charmed life, osito,” she patted his knee, “Pamela has had it rough, but thanks to her friends and the members of her Pride she has really made incredible strides for a better year for herself and her son.”

“Son?” he couldn’t stop the growl that followed the word. It wasn’t that he didn’t like children, on the contrary, but he never imagined his mate would already have a child.

“Whose child is it?”

“He is her child, you idiot! Now don’t act like a possessive asshole in heat, Javi. Besides Paulie is the sweetest little Tiger cub,” Gerri continued and her eyes glowed at the mention of the young boy.

“Of course, I apologize. I love kids, but my Bear is a little possessive right now,” he explained.

“Good. Cause that is non-negotiable. Paulie is part of the deal.”

“Yes. My Bear would love a cub, any cub of Pamela’s will be mine if she will have me,” Javier nodded and his Bear chuffed softly, already staking his claim on the unseen child.

Amazing that the second Gerri had mentioned a cub his Bear had seemed to take the boy as his own. It was the idea of another male’s hands on his Pamela that had caused the beast to growl angrily. He couldn’t help that. She was his.

“So, let’s talk about homes. You said you were moving to the states and Maverick Point, New Jersey is quite the ideal little town. Here, I printed some pictures for you of available properties and this is the number for a local real estate agent,” she handed him a red folder and Javi grinned at her.

“Aunt Gerri, you are a genius.”

“I know, osito, now why don’t you find a home that would be suitable for a family, your family, if you’re lucky,” and the confounded woman shook her head as if she had her doubts.

No, he would not lose her. He made a vow right then and there to do anything he could to make Pamela see that he was the only man for her.

Whatever happened in her past, it was just that. He was sorry she had been hurt, wished like hell he could bring the man who hurt her back to life just so he could kill him again, but the plain truth was Javier loved her for who she was now.

He would love her a million years from now. She was his whole heart and he was going to prove it to her.
