“Never go back?” I ask.
“Never,” she agrees.
I lay down with her and take her hand. “I’m still sorry. I should have done what you said. I should have checked every drink. I barely remember ...”
“I’m glad we noticed and got you out of there. It could have been really bad,” she whispers.
“Yeah,” I agree.
“Also, I texted the number in your phone that kept texting you,” she informs and my eyes fly open.
I changed Adrian’s name in my phone fromStallionto an eggplant emoji, but still, she can put the pieces together.
She strokes my hair. “He’s really worried about you. Likereallyworried, babe. It took a few texts to keep him from coming over.”
“Shit,” I mumble.
Adrian is going to be so pissed. He’s talked to me about my drinking before, and I doubt he’ll see it how Beth sees it. I don’t even see it that way. I lost track of how many drinks I had, which is bad. Really bad. I can’t believe I got drugged. I know I was leading Sean on, but to drug me. Damn.
But when I think back to why I went a little crazy, I roll again, burying my face in my pillow. “Can I stay here all day?”
“I’m insisting on it.” She rubs my back. “Mr. Eggplantand all his feelings will have to wait.”
“He doesn’t have feelings. It’s just sex,” I grumble.
“Uh-huh. Look at your phone before you say that.” She sighs. “Go back to sleep. Just a little bit longer.”
Sleep sounds better than dealing with all the bullshit waiting for me.

Having fun. With friends. Talk tomorrow.—that’s the last messageIsent Adrian.
Then he sent me way too many
Are you angry with me?
Don’t shut me out.
Just tell me what frat you’re at and I’ll be there.
I can’t go through all the frats having parties tonight. You know that.
I’ll start if you don’t answer.
Baby, please. I’m begging you. I just wantyou safe.
I’m not interested in our normal punishment game. Answer me so I know you’re okay.
Kitten, answer me!
My heart aches as I know what I saw doesn’t add up to what he’s saying and it makes me question everything. Then another message from me… well, Beth.
Emily is okay. She’s really drunk and someone drugged her drink, but she only had a sip. I don’t think it’s too bad. She’s in the shower right now with me—her roommate, Beth—and her other bestie. We’ve got her. I promise.
She should be at a hospital. I’ll come over and help.
Is he insane? What would even make him say that!
