Mac growled and glared at him. "Fuck no. I want to be in their lives. Fuck. I even want to be her daughter's dad. I love Janie and have for several months now."
"So, what are you going to do about that?"
"Fucking nothing right now," Mac said. "She hasn't given me any indication that she likes me. I've been dropping hints towards her."
Finn crossed his arms. "Everyone at the club can see that Janie likes you."
Mac rolled his eyes. Sure, Janie talked to him and joked around a little. And he did catch her looking at him several times but that didn't mean anything. Janie could just be really friendly with him.
"I think you should do something. Give her a little push," Finn said. "I don't think it'll hurt."
Mac shook his head. He didn't want to push her too hard. What if the hints he had been giving her were pushing too much?
"How did her daughter react to you?" Finn asked.
"She seemed to like me," Mac said. "Waved and gave me a big smile. Didn't shy away."
Mac left out the part of her giving him a nickname. No one else needed to know that. Not because he was embarrassed about it but because he wanted it to be between the three of them. He wasn't ready to share it with everyone yet. He wanted to cherish it.
"That's good. If her daughter doesn't like you then there wouldn't be any chance with you," Finn said. "But the good news for you is that she likes you.”
"Doesn't matter. I'm not doing anything," Mac said.
"I really think you should. I've seen the way Janie looks at you. She's definitely interested in you."
Mac was happy to hear that, but he was still hesitant. What if she didn't want him?
"I'll think about it," Mac said and sighed. He had thought about it so much. Probably too much, but he was going to think about it more. He needed to come up with a plan or something.
"Don't think for too long," Finn said as he got up. "You may talk yourself out of it. Or you may take too long and someone else could swoop in and take her."
Mac growled at that. He didn't want anyone else to have her. Call him selfish, but Janie was his.
Janie and her daughter. They were a deal package and he wanted both of them.
"I've got to go. Charlotte is probably wondering where I am," Finn said. "I'll see you later."
"Later." Mac sighed and leaned further into his chair when Finn walked out of his office. How was he going to get any work done now when he had things to think about?
Was he going to make a move? Push her a little? Mac didn't want to push her too far and make things worse. Would he know if he pushed her too hard? Would she tell him?
He stopped thinking about that. He would know and he wouldn't push her too far. Mac had known Janie for years. He knew her. He just needed to come up with some sort of plan on how to show her he wanted her.
CHAPTER THREE
JANIE
Janie didn't know how she should feel about how she introduced Eleanor to Mac. It wasn't in her plans to do that yet. Or ever.
Janie was selective about who her daughter could meet. She didn't want her to meet anyone and get attached, only for them to leave and never be seen again. She could remember how it happened to her several times and it made her depressed. She would form these amazing bonds with people and then they would never show up again.
But at the same time Janie knew she needed to introduce Eleanor to Mac. They were neighbors and if anything happened, she needed to be comfortable around him.
It was a tough situation. As much as she wanted to protect her daughter, she also needed her to be comfortable around some people. What if she got sick and was put in the hospital? Her sister could only do so much since she had kids of her own. She couldn't be around all the time.
"Mama!" Eleanor yelled.
Janie opened her arms and her daughter ran into them. Wrapping her arms around her, she spun around and held herclose. Janie absolutely loved having her daughter in her arms. Even when she was exhausted, she loved having the comfort.
