Hedda moved her head away from him. She didn't want to feel the comfort he was giving her. She didn't deserve it.
“You’re okay,” Leo said. “We’re here for you.”
She felt her eyes start to droop as Leo and Oliver ran their hands through her hair. It was so comforting and so relaxing.
Before she knew it, Hedda closed her eyes and fell asleep.
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
HEDDA
"I'm going to have so much fun torturing you," Richard said as he took a step forward.
Hedda held the gun shakily in her hand as she pointed it at him. She didn't know how many more times she could kill him. He wasn't dying when he should be.
"Just die," she said, breaking down.
"I'll never die," Richard replied. "I'll haunt you forever."
She pulled the trigger and hit him in the chest, but no blood showed up. Tears filled her eyes and she shook her head.
"Now it's my turn," Richard said as he gave her a smile.
Hedda screamed.
"Breathe," someone whispered. "Take a deep breath in, Sweets."
She opened her eyes, but everything was so blurry and she couldn't see anything. Was she dead now? Was this how it was going to be forever? Nightmares, waking up to a nightmare, and it just on repeat?
"Come on, Sweets. Breathe for Papa," the man whispered again. "Take a breath in."
Hedda didn't know if she could take a deep breath in. Fear froze her and she didn't feel like she could do anything.
"Oliver," the man said.
Hands landed on Hedda, and she tried to get away from them, but her body wasn't moving.
"Come on Princess," another voice said, Daddy. "Take a breath for Daddy."
Her head lulled back as they picked her up. She couldn't figure out how to hold her head up.
"I'll hold her head. You start working," Daddy said.
Hedda didn't know what they were talking about.
"Papa is going to start wrapping the ropes around your body," Daddy said. "Just take a breath for me."
There was something different about Daddy's voice. It sounded like he was almost panicking and she couldn't understand why.
"Please Princess," he begged. "Just take a tiny breath for Daddy. Fill those lungs with air."
That was when Hedda started to notice her lungs screaming at her. How had that gotten past her? She didn't know, but now she was starting to panic.
"No," Daddy said. "Don't panic. Everything is okay."
But it didn't sound okay. Daddy had sounded a little panicked before and she didn't like that.
"Just focus on my voice and take a breath in," Daddy said. "Papa is going to start wrapping the ropes around your arms now."
