Apple juice filled her mouth and she sighed in content. It was amazing and she couldn't remember the last time she had apple juice.
When she was staying with Michael and Monroe, she hadn't really had much to eat or drink. She didn't leave the room she was staying in unless she absolutely had to.
"Such a good girl," Leo said.
He brought the water bottle back up to her mouth as he pulled the apple juice box away from her. She wanted to whine and tell him to bring it back, but she held herself back.
Hedda was starting to get comfortable around them again and attachment always followed closely behind.
She flinched as Oliver brought his hand through her hair and water spilled all over her. Her eyes went wide and she stared at Leo in panic. Was he going to get mad at her for spilling the water?
"It's okay," Leo gently said. "It's just water. No harm done."
"Sorry, Princess," Oliver said.
So many things were going on around her and she didn't know how to feel about it. Oliver was calling her princess, something she didn't know how she felt about it, and Leo was being really kind and understanding.
Not that he wasn't always kind and understanding, but it was weird.
"It'll soak into your shirt and pants," Leo said. "Do you want to change into something different?"
She shook her head. She didn't have any energy to change her clothes and she didn't want them to see her. Hedda had lost weight and a person could see her ribs if they looked close enough.
She knew it wasn't healthy, but she couldn't find it in herself to care about it right now. She was more focused on staying awake and feeling guilty about killing him.
Maybe if she hadn't insisted on going into Miles' office, none of that would've happened. She wouldn't have killed Richard and she wouldn't have these nightmares.
What if her nightmares were just telling her what was going to happen? Was Richard really dead or was it just her imagination that made it up?
She saw the blood on the carpet, seeping from his body. Too much blood for him to be alive but she wasn't sure.
"You're okay," Oliver said as he ran his hand through her hair.
She had mentioned before everything happened that she secretly loved it when people played with her hair. She hadn't told anyone but the twins because everyone perceived her as a girl who didn't give a fuck. And that was true, but she loved having her hair played with.
"Princess?" Oliver asked.
She didn't change her body position as he spoke. What did he want?
"Have you had nightmares before or is this the first one?" Oliver asked.
Her whole body went stiff as he asked thatquestion. She wasn't about to spill everything to them because they helped her a tiny bit after a nightmare. That wasn't how it worked.
Hedda tried to push herself off of his lap, but his arms wrapped around her. She let out a groan and tried to get out again, but he held her right against him.
"Let me go," she said.
"Relax," Oliver said.
She shook her head and clawed at his arms. She didn't want to sit here and have them ask her questions like she was in an interrogation. It wasn't happening.
"You're okay," Leo said. "You're safe."
They had reminded her so many times that she was safe and part of her was starting to realize it. She hadn't even been here for a full day and she was already coming undone.
Maybe it was the fact that she knew no one would be able to get into their house. It was a fortress.
"Just relax," Oliver said again.
