"It's okay," Hedda whispered, looking over at Daddy.
"No, it's not fucking okay."
Papa put a hand on Daddy's shoulder.
"We'll talk about this later," Papa said. "Right now, I want to continue to hug Sweets here and take her home."
"Home," she whispered. "I want to go home."
"Your home is here," Rogan said.
Hedda turned around and looked at her brother. She took a deep breath.
"Home is here, but home is also with Papa and Daddy," she gently said. "I love them, and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without them."
Hedda braced her body for Rogan to tell her she was getting married to someone else. But it never came.
"As long as you know that you always have a home here," Rogan said, almost like he was forcing it out.
She figured he didn't really want to say that, but she was glad he did. Hedda didn't know what she would do if he said she wasn't welcome here anymore. She still had friends. Storm and Miles were here.
"But you won't be leaving today," Rogan said. "You'll be staying here for a couple of days. If you're going back toMissouri with Oliver and Leo, then I want to get to know them."
Hedda opened her mouth, but Rogan started to speak again.
"Non-negotiable. If you want to go back to Missouri with them, you have to do this. I can't let my baby sister go back with two men I know nothing about," Rogan said. "Not fucking happening."
She nodded her head. She could see where he was coming from. Rogan didn't know anything about them.
"You won't leave until I am satisfied with knowing them," Rogan said. "Do you understand?"
"Yes," she replied.
Maybe with this, they could get on his good side. Maybe this will help them get along and they won't be at each other's throats. Not that she thought they would be, but Hedda wanted them to get along.
Rogan was her only brother, and she didn't want to lose him. But, at the same time, Papa and Daddy were two people she loved and wanted to spend the rest of her life with. She didn't want to lose them either.
If they couldn't get along, Hedda didn't know what she would do. Would they make her pick?
Hedda didn't know if she would be able to do that. All three of them were important to her.
"You'll also be staying in different rooms," Rogan said.
A whine escaped from her mouth. She didn't want to be in different rooms than them. She had slept in the same bed with them before. It also seemed to help with her nightmares, and she didn't want to have another nightmare tonight.
"You will be and that's final," Rogan said, giving her a pointed look.
Hedda pouted, hoping that would persuade her brother, but it didn't.
"No arguments, Sweets," Papa said. "He said we won't be sharing a room, so we won't be."
She turned around and gave him a shocked look. Was he really going to be on her brother's side? What about her health? She hadn't been sleeping well and she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep knowing they were in a different room.
"We'll be having dinner in twenty minutes," Rogan said. "I expect all three of you to be there."
"We will be," Oliver said.
Hedda heard Rogan leave the room. She couldn't help but run back into their arms. She never wanted to leave them again.
