"You need to stop cursing, especially towards Monroe. She is trying hard not to show you, but she still gets affected by cursing towards her," Michael said. "Apologize to her for that. She was just trying to be nice. You shouldn't be cursing at anyone. "
"Fuck no," Hedda said. She knew it was inappropriate for her to do that, but she didn't care right now. Hedda had cursed at several people and they never said anything to her. Storm was one of them.
Her brother and some of his men would get on to her for it, but they never actually got her in trouble. Because they cursed and it was normal. People here were wusses who couldn't handle any type of cursing. Well, they were in for a new reality because Hedda wasn't going to stop cursing.
Michael sighed once again and looked at her. "Monroe is your friend, so think about her and how, every time you curse, you are bringing up memories from when she was abused."
Hedda stilled for a second before she looked away. She hadn't thought about it that way. In no way did she want to bring up something like that, but she couldn't let Michael know that he was getting to her.
"Then keep her away from me," she forced out.
She hated what she said, but she didn't know how not tocurse. It was part of her and, if it brought up memories for Monroe, then maybe she was better off not being around her.
"You don't mean that," Michael said. "She's your friend."
"I do mean it," Hedda said. "I meant every fucking word I say."
But she didn't look at Michael when she said that because it was a lie. Sometimes she said things that she didn't mean, but she needed to show him that this wasn't going to affect her.
"I also wanted to talk to you about your eating habits," Michael said. "I'm a doctor and what you're doing isn't healthy."
"I didn't ask for your fucking opinion," Hedda spat out.
He had given her a speech a couple days after she arrived in Missouri. He didn't like her eating habits or lack of eating. Michael didn't like a lot of things that she did but was she surprised? No. There were a lot of people in her life that didn't approve of the things she did but she did them anyway. Why would she cater towards them when they were trying to restrict her so much?
That was no way to live her life.
"I don't want you dying on my watch," Michael said. "You need to eat, drink, sleep, and get out of this house!"
She turned and glared at him.
"You don't get to tell me what to do!" She yelled. "You aren't my fucking Daddy."
"I know I'm not, but I know two people who would be very disappointed that you weren't taking care of yourself! They wouldn’t want you to be starving yourself and getting sleep deprived. They want what’s best for you, even whenyou don’t think you deserve it," he raised his voice. "You've lost weight since you came here! Your skin has gotten even more pale as each day goes on. You need to eat, sleep, and get out in the sun."
Hedda's mouth fell open. Why did he have to bring up the twins in this situation? She knew that she had lost some weight, but that wasn’t a concern of hers right now. Staying awake was her main priority so she didn’t have nightmares. That was all that mattered right now.
"I don't care what they think," she said but every word she said hurt.
She did care about them and what they thought but she needed to get over that. She couldn't have them and the sooner she realized that, the better it was going to be.
"I think you do," he said.
Hedda glared at him before she turned around and looked out the window.
"There are other alternatives for sleeping," he said. "You need your rest and you aren't getting it. I can give you sleeping pills if you need them."
"I don't need them. I don't want them."
"I know you've been taking caffeine pills from the medicine cabinets." Her blood ran cold as she heard him say those words. "I know you're taking them so you can stay awake and not have the nightmares. It's not healthy and I need you to stop. I've hidden the pills, and you won't be able to find them."
Good thing she had several hidden under her pillow that she could use. She would just have to be careful when she took them since she didn't have a lot of them.
"I have no doubt you've hidden some in your room. I'm not going to look because this room is your safe place right now and I don't want to disturb that safety. You won't be getting any more," Michael said. "You need to start taking care of yourself."
She scoffed and looked back at him.
"I'm going to go out with Monroe now. I don't know when we'll be back, but you should try and eat something or get some sleep," Michael said. "There are protein drinks in the fridge and there's also chicken noodle soup. You can raid the pantry for little snacks. Please drink some water to keep yourself hydrated."
